I heard ISU is hosting their first indoor meet soon. I have not had the pleasure of seeing the new facility. Could someone elaborate on their thoughts of this new structure please? Is it comparable to other facilities? Pros and cons? The photos I have seen are not very good of conveying much detail. Is there spectator seating?

I have not seen it yet either, maybe SSOM can help us out here

There is a new video on Twitter of the track @indsttrackfield is the Twitter account

The facility is really nice. The track surface is as nice of a surface as you will find in the country. The large window to the west is really impressive and allows some outside lighting to come in which we didn't have in the past. The biggest issue with the previous building/track prior to expansion was the track was very narrow and the turn(s) were very sharp - they have widened things out a bit and it's much safer for training and meets.

The facility is still going to lack seating - they just don't have enough space to host large meets. They also need to add some graphics or banners to the north wall - it's just kind of blank and plain for now. I am sure this will come in the future.

At the end of the day to have a track and field / cross country program with LaVern Gibson, a new outdoor track built within the last 5 years, a new indoor track built within the last 5 years, a new indoor training facility and office facility built within the last 5 years is really impressive. The commitment the University has made to the programs is something I am really happy and proud of the support the programs are getting from ISU Brass. It reflects the level of involvement and support that alumni have showed to the program over the years. What McNichols / Gartland and the current staff have done to continue to build support with alumni is really the gold standard for all programs at Indiana State.

Thanks for the reply. Also watched the video. Looks pretty nice! I would hope they could put just about 3 rows of retractable blue plastic seating on the side..... I mean many facilities have bleachers pushed pretty close to the last lane... but there might be new code issues preventing that.... but IU has theirs pretty darn close. Or maybe on an end corner? Major upgrade though.

I watched the video of the facility and meet earlier on twitter. Looks like they put in a few rows of seating... still looked packed... appears they need to find a way to install more seating.... maybe in two corners with taller bleacher seats? I must say - the facility looked pretty nice in the video. I'm not an expert in college track and field facilities but I think SSOM is right - it is a top notch facility... May be one the best in the MVC? Go trees!

they had a good crowd at the meet yesterday. Looks like a very nice facility, still looks like there are more things that need to be added to it, so it's a work in progress. But it's great we finally have an indoor track. I'd say yes, it's one of the nicest ones in the MVC, but we won't be able to host the MVC meet on it, too small of a facility I believe
