I know politics go in the hidden forum, but this is too big to bury there. This is going to be huge going forward.

That's why I avoid MSM. They usually don't know what they are talking about. They may have closed some loopholes. I'm tired of coaches making millions of dollars working for tax supported schools.
That's like the NFL teams being furnished stadiums so they can afford to pay the players and coaches millions of our money.

Any who, was listening to Chicago sports talk on my way home from the gym and this came up. One of the interesting fallouts are the poison pill taxes put on coach salaries. What makes this doubly impactful is that buyouts will continue to be taxed so it could mean schools will be less likely to kick coaches to the curb quickly.

Another one that I found really interesting (and applies to even lower programs like us) is tying donations to seat purchases and that tax deduction going away. We always hear that all of those lower bowl seats at Hulman Center were sold to businesses. Will they be less likely to toss money our way knowing they don't get a deduction? Some scary things to ponder.

Will be interesting to see how colleges fight back and if they'll force the NCAA to get into the lobbying game. Also wonder if you could see a fight against Title IX coming soon because if schools are effectively losing a lot of their benefits, they're going to want to find ways to trim expenses and you know most won't trim it from the programs that are bringing in revenues.

Look at our attendance. We may be all intramural.

The only difference is in the money sports like football and basketball, businesses buy up tickets to write off on their taxes. So if that revenue stream goes away, it's up to the fans to fill the supply. Do you believe they will do that since they don't fill the cheaper supply?

Guys, can we please fucking quit taking jabs of whatever side of the aisle each of you are one.

Focus on the actual topic of conversation. How about some of you read the article I posted and give your thoughts and feedback on what is actually coming down instead of generalizations? Hell, I'd even be game to discuss speculation of what it could mean.

FFS.

I read it. I suspect it won't actually hurt the big universities as much as the article suggests. Their big donors will just donate more money, if need be.

I do worry it will just be one more challenge for ISU. Perhaps one too many.

And ... I just get tired of all the politics constantly being posted here. Usually, I ignore it, but it gets old.

Or....,,

Just to play devils advocate,......

It may benefit ISU (not financially but aesthetically) by having lower bowl tix purchased by people that actually will use them and making for a better crowd impact and visual representation on television.

Or maybe I got into the liquor cabinet too early tonight.

Maybe. However, if I'm a big time donor/business and will no longer will get a tax write off for buying tickets/suites/etc, I'll be getting my write off elsewhere. Rich people are rich for a reason and they (usually) aren't reckless with their money.

Here is one from WKU, which their AD comes out and says they won't be doing away with seat donation fees. Will be interesting to see how their supporters react to that. A couple other big forums I was reading through today had people posting they went ahead and just got all of their 2018 tickets purchased in advance so they could take the deduction this year while they could.

All interesting stories; have to agree that men's "Olympic" sports (aka non-revenue) will be the first cut, then the small scholie # women's sports... MBB and Football won't suffer at the top tier programs; saban will still receive un-holy sums of $$ to coach kids.

At the end of the day, the power brokers will finagle their way thru the tax code. That's what the power brokers do. It's the middle class, mid-majors who'll pay the true cost.

First, I love it, this isn’t what our fore fathers envisioned, no need to have a complicated tax system, if any tax system, to stimulate sectors of our economy. All it does is give politicians power and a reason to exist. Enough of politics!!
It won’t affect the lower level athletic programs like ISU, but it could affect the power 5 conferences. I think this will accelerate and give the power 5 conferences an excuse in leaving the NCAA and forming their own league to capture the TV rights to all sports. They would love to have all the march maddness $$ CBS currently gives the NCAA.
