Came across this yesterday and finally got to read a little on it. Basically the ASun is going to merge with the CCSA. They'll absorb some of the non rev sport programs from the CCSA into a new 20 team league. The new league will be named the United Athletic Conference.

The chronological steps in this plan are:
a) ASUN Conference expands to 20 members (by June, 2023)
b) The ASUN transfers rights to the ASUN name and marks to the CCSA
c) The ASUN 7 join the CCSA (July 1, 2023)
d) The CCSA adopts the ASUN name as a multisport conference
e) The remaining ASUN members adopt the name United Athletic Conference

This will also have FCS implications as quite a few CCSA members are FCS programs. I could see this likely killing the Big South as well as have them pulling some schools from the OVC, SoCon, MEAC, etc.

have they improved/firmed their plans?

whole plan seems quite "pie in the sky"

I don't think so. I think the only way to know if this is progressing is to see if some of those CCSA schools join the ASUN. That CCSA has such a varied makeup to begin with so I'd agree with your assessment. Will be interesting to watch.
