Driving by the stadium this morning... I look over and on the East side of the stadium, they are putting up large black I-Beams... About the middle of the end-zone facing towards the stands. Is that a new scoreboard or videoboard going up? If so, that will be a LOT nicer than the smaller basketball videobards mounted on a trailer..

I heard it was a scoreboard, but it looks like a video board instead. I was walking the trail last night and is was sitting out there. Looks like it is ready to be raised. Maybe its a combination of scoreboard/videoboard.

That will be awesome if it's a big video board. Simple stuff like that improves the program's image and can draw fans and recruits.

You've got to give RP credit for getting the little things done. Even if it is a scoreboard only, it adds to the "experience". My guess is that it will be the old video board from HC (NW corner of the football field the past couple of years) combined with a new scoreboard, but it now maybe has a "permanent" home on steel supports in the east end zone.

He continues to prove that even with a pultry budget, he can get things done. (i.e. the new Hulman Center basketball court). Since we only play one night game a year, I guess I won't take another shot at the nasty lighting at MS.

I'm not saying they wont use the one from Hulman Center but the one that's getting ready to be hung is not the one from HC. This ones bigger and was in crate type packaging.

Glad to hear that. Thanks for the update. The technology for the HC board is rather outdated and anything new will be MUCH better in quality. Way to go RP. That really makes more sense as it was not easy taking it in and out of the HC board I am sure. I am ready for some FOOTBALL~

i've heard that its a video board going up.....

and that a new scoreboard will hopefully be in place early in the season.....as well.......

You don't think they will get it all installed before the 4th? That seems kind of crazy. It should arrive ready to plug in and mount I would think. I can't imagine that it would not be ready for the opener. Have you heard otherwise, TJ?

it just depends on when it arrives.......

from what i've heard through the grapevine....everything's been ordered.....but when it actually gets here is the big question.....the videoboard stuff is already here....or getting here....i havent heard when the scoreboard is due in...just that they hope to have everything up and running early in the season....

Heard that the new ScoreBoard will only have single digit capabilities for the Home Score??

any truth to this???

I kid, I kid.... :-o

don't tell Morgan... :D

:sycamores:

Oh Morgan already seen it... Go ahead do what you do. I am not against "progress" if that's what you want to call this.

If you or anyone else have a problem with me looking to the future and suggesting that no more money needs to put in a stadium that we won't play in 10 years from now then I guess we just have a difference in opinion and nothing more on the topic needs to be said between me and anyone else about it...

All I know is when you go public with a 10 to 20 year master plan and it calls for a new football stadium then that's what I have to go by. It would seem to me that saving money in all these different places would move them closer to the 10 year master plan than the longer down the road 20 year master plan... But that's just me.

At this point I don't care what they do, wish them nothing but the best. I am glad they updated the locker rooms, they look great and it needed to be done, I am glad they updated the field - it looks great and is safer to play on - I am glad they are going to build a practice field that can be utilized by both the soccer team, football team and youth organizations and I am glad that they are putting up a new score board - hopefully we can fill it with points!

Don't come here complaining that the University isn't doing enough or their is a lack of support or any of that nonsense. Don't want to hear it months down the road. I am not saying that anyone is doing that yet - but it is what it is. Obviously they are going to keep upgrading that facility off campus and it that's what they have decided to do then I am in support of that. But if I see any of these posts about moving closer to campus this and moving closer to campus that I am going to flip.

I'm guessing a new stadium is going to cost quite a bit. These improvements are small in comparison. I get your point Morgan, I just don't think the savings would amount to that much, and why have the program suffer in the short term?

Don't forget, also Morgan, that Memorial Stadium had been allowed to deteriorate so much that they had to put this money into the place just to make it reasonable as a D-I football facility. I doubt that they really wanted to do that, but until someone comes along and opens the checkbook for "Morgan Stadium" (just havin' some fun with 'ya...), DB and RP really had no choice but to do some upgrades. It's still years behind facilities of our conference bretheren...

Plus, I would imagine that the video board and new scoreboard could easily make the trip west if we got a new football stadium in the next few years.

This subject has been brought up before and hashed out ad nauseum and I do understand where you are coming from, BUT scoreboard and video boards CAN be moved relatively easily. The field turf is not permanent and it comes up, much like a carpet. Those lights can't be moved apparently and that is a GOOD thing. You can't move lockerrooms, yes that is true but the current players needed those facilties NOW and RP and the Board felt they did as well.

This stadium needs to make it another 5-10 years and I don't see any of this as too wasteful, just essential. The practice fields are for more than one sport and not without fault but again, they figured out a way to get it done and within a tight budget. Trust me, if it was felt this investment could have been avoided, they would have found a way around doing any of this.

Before typing I re-read the ISU Master Plan, specifically regarding the football stadium (pg 3-10 or 28 in the pdf) it says:

Memorial Stadium is in need of a major upgrade and is remote from campus.
A new stadium is depicted in a prominent location west of US 41 (3rd Street).
It should be noted this facility may be phased in over a number of years. The
proposed location is suitable for the building of a facility that can begin to
improve the program and offer an important culture-building opportunity for
students, staff, faculty and alumni.

On pg 5-6 (48) it says:

The football and soccer practice and competition facility is located approximately 2.5 miles east of the main campus on US 40 (National Road). The remote location of this facility diminishes the positive impact these programs could have on the culture of the institution and reduces the
opportunity for alumni and visitors to more completely engage the campus during game events. The distance of this facility forces the vast majority of the commutes to campus to be a vehicular mode.

Memorial Stadium is antiquated and in need of a major renovation. Some of the facility needs were being addressed during the course of the preparation of the master plan. The athletics administration indicated that new, on-campus competition and practice venues are required to make the ISU facilities competitive in the Missouri Valley Conference.

So, while there's talk and hope and dreams and goals of a new football stadium as depicted -- No one has stepped forward to slap down a cool $10-15M to get the project started; as it says in the Message from the President (pg 5) "Our campus master plan will guide the physical growth and development of the Indiana State University campus for the next 15 to 20 years..."

So, what that means Morgan, you COULD be pushing 45-50 before it's built!

So, the football team is supposed to play in a 2007-08 era Memorial Stadium??

If you believe that, I believe you're actually Andi Myers...
