A friend of mine works in sports betting and we were discussing point shaving (could be a story breaking soon) and I instantly thought how there is now a conduit to legally give kickbacks to players by donating to NIL collectives. I talked to him about NIL and he wasn't really hip to it as he doesn't follow college sports.

I'd be curious to know if there are any sort of cross referencing done between sports betting and NIL donations. Anyhow, something to think about.

I'm surprised it has taken this long for something like this to get brought up. Anyone can essentially wager; fans, alumni, students, business's, etc. and you have athletes getting paid anyways. If I'm an athlete and I see "-1.5 3-point makes" next to my name you don't think that enters my mind? Now I would never throw a game or do anything to not put my team in best position to win, I'm just not that person. But you cannot tell me that no athlete has seen $$$, directly from sports gambling, I'm not believing it.

I never thought of the prop bets (aside from winning a streaker bet by being the streaker)

I'd have added players, coaches, referees, umps and all athl staff members to your list...

now that the NFL and MLB are "full in" on betting... (interesting how quickly they changed their position...) how soon before the ncaa, conferences are opening a sports book in the stadiums, arenas?

but to your point - SHOCKING how sports betting and NIL have NOT been openly tied together by pundits, media heads, etc -- when you have degenerate gamblers like Michael Jordan, Phil Mickelson, Pete Rose, 98% of ALL PGA Tour caddies; how will NIL NOT be an easy way to send $$ to a kid to shave points?

I get the pete rose reference but when does gambling become degenerate gambling?
