Well, crud. I was hoping for ISU and Terre Haute to get the chance to WOW the state with this event. I wonder how much, "Terre Haute? The place stinks..." bias went into this decision? I'm not saying it did, but I gotta wonder...

This would have been hard for ISU to help with re:
1) MBB Arch Madness would be happening
2) Last regular game of season for WBB

Ya, ol' Blake & his gestapo "status quo" chums. In '05 after the Jasper Baseball Sectional fiasco robbed Vincennes of an opportunity to move on in the IHSAA Tournament, the Vincennes Principal presented a "resolution" to the IHSAA offering a "procedure" to rectify Rulebook application "errors" by umpires, thus preventing future farces. The resolution was defeated, 3-2.

You figure.

The Tribune Star reported today that there was 2 reasons for HC not getting the bid
1. John Wooden court is 10 feet to big
2. Ft Wayne had a better bid
go figure

Who buys a wood basketball floor whose length cannot be altered? Particularly when your arena hosts high school games? That seems to me to be a bit ridiculous. I mean seriously, who does that??? :censored:

I don't see why they can't play it in HC, we have that North-South girls game there and they don't have trouble with it. It gets them ready for college ball. The IHSAA just gave them an excuse so they could put it back in Fort Wayne.

ISU...Mediocre. From Day One. :wordyo:

When did the hardwood replace tartan...'90? The current TH Redevelopment czar (Cliff Lambert) was ruling over HC during that era, which explains the INABILITY to shorten the court. His 25 yr. reign over HC since it's inception handcuffed ISU Basketball more than anything else. He did everything in his power to try to convince the Wabash Valley that HC was NOT primarily a basketball palace. What a screwball...:krazy:

Return it to Indianapolis

The entire issue is stupid; the State Championships should be contested in the STATE Capital.

But thanks to a selfish decision in 1997-98; the state tournaments do not draw enough fans to support the use of Conseco Fieldhouse; the first girl's tourney was at Hinkle --- return it to Hinkle; keep it in the CAPITAL.

You can take five feet off of each end and re-line the floor with tape. Butler does it all the time. The better bid is another story. Management was very short sighted when they replaced the floor.

Butler does not want to tie up Hinkle for that is the same weekend as the Horizon League tournament. The Big Ten women have Conseco tied up.

Is the Pepsi Colieseum free?

Fine, great, wonderful -- they were able to hold it in Indianapolis for ~20 years, no? -- FIND A PLACE in the State Capital

Pepsi is not a viable alternative for the corridors are not big enough to handle that many people without major discomfort. I think New Castle would be a good alternative.

They moved it from Indy because of low attendance - no?

Seems like a smaller venue would therefore be appropriate

In the information to the right of the article it says the IHSAA will not be charged rent for its use of the Coliseum. To me that says it all. The HC probably wanted to charge the IHSAA for the State Finals games, which they have every right to do. (yes I am sticking up for Hulman Center on this one.) I'm sure North and South have to pony up some money for their use. I do believe Rockville had to pay a rental fee when they moved their game against TH South a year ago.

when i worked at isu and we hosted high school basketball events...

all they did was place the tape on each end of the floor....to shorten the court for high school games....it worked for north-south games, sectionals, regionals, semi-states....why it wouldnt work now is worth wondering....lol....why would it be okay for games since the place opened in 1971 but not good enough for the girls state finals.....
