I think I noted this the last time we played at South Bend couple of years ago .................
As much as we criticize Terre Haute and ISU for their lack of attendance at games (and they deserve it) the Notre Dame crowds have been suprisingly smaller than expected. Sunday was probably smaller than our Ball State crowd. I know they will have bigger crowds for their conference games etc. but I expected a much bigger ND student crowd and adult fans also. Also they are pretty passive.
That said the Notre Dame arena is the best college gym I've ever been to -- very classy, full of history and high tech, easy to get around, great staff, on and on.
I noticed how they have the upper area lighted -- even though lots of empty seats up there it did not look that way on the video screen (TV). Lights very much subdued -- we need that for Hulman Center and it should not be that hard to get a similiar look. Surely we have the ability to turn off some sections of the lights and focus on the court.
ISU -- turned off some (most) of the upper seating area lights.
Anyway -- great time Sunday, alumni party was nice, game was fantastic, and loved the post-game South Bend weather !

I was at ND game. Purcell Pavillion at Joyce Center holds 9147 and I would estimate that it was 2/3 full. No students other than band. Their large section was essentially empty. I had center court seats about 8 rows back and numerous and I mean numerous empty seats. Crowd largely quiet but ISU may have had something to do with this. I agree arena was extremely nice with the fabled no bad seat moniker. Staff excellent as noted. ISU played a wonderful game with more talent than I have seen in quite some time. Very athletic. If team plays like this they have the talent to be special. JO best player on floor but very talented cast.

If you ever want to figure out why ND basketball doesn't have a large following despite having a GIGANTIC football following, simply ask any Notre Dame football fans you know if they can name 2-3 players on the team. A very large majority of their fan base are subway alums that root for their alma maters in basketball or folks that reside in Indiana root for ND football and IU hoops. At least that is what I've come to realize since I've followed ND football.
