Wow, classless move by NY mayor Bloomberg IMO. Still several million without power and thousands of people still missing. Looting going on and police instead have to handle marathon instead of helping. Anyone following this and feel differently? People with no power getting kicked out of hotels because of marathon reservations.

Hope New York speak with their votes when he is up for re-election.

Was completely blown away when I heard this on ESPN yesterday! WTF is he thinking? I know this is a huge event for NYC and everything but are you kidding me?? Like you said, folks are getting kicked out of their hotels and now emergency personnel have to work this instead of the disaster. Unreal.
 
I certainly was shocked by the announcement a few days ago that the MYC Marathon was still going to be held. 40K refunds could be a night mare but beyond that, this is not a time to worry about this event. One after-effect I heard last night on the evening news in Indy about the Indianapolis Monumental Marathon, which is being held here tomorrow. They were approaching 300 NEW runners in the past few days who are skipping New York and coming here. The Monument is a new event but they are pleased to have a record amount of runners this year.
 
It's way too soon to run this and try to show the citizens things are approaching normal. That won't happen for a long time. Very bad move on his part, very bad.
 
I usually agree with Mayor Bloomberg and many of the really tough decisions he has had to make but this one totally mystifies me. I dated a girl than ran the NY Marathon twice and I do know she trained for what seems like forever and that their conditioning is up to the last MINUTE almost but as I mentioned, that is why many have moved their run to here. I bet they have added a good number since that broadcast last night.

terrible decision to run this race, it should have been canceled 2 days ago!
 
The sad thing is, that doing at such a late point in the week that it added to the confusion even MORE~
 
here's my take on it

nice of him to wait until everyone got to NY before he canceled, that way he can ensure everyone there will still be able to spend millions. Had he canceled it earlier in the week then all those people would not have come to NY, thus costing the city millions in lost revenue
