On the surface it doesn't make a whole lot of sense but as always, I suppose we shouldn't worry until the season begins. I know that Collison fell a bit out of "favor" toward the end the season and Danthay showed some promise and at other times, showed little. I'd say it is too early to say. I think this Pacer management team will do LOTS of strange things and we'll just have wait and see how they do long-term.

He may have fell out of favor, but this was an absolutely terrible trade. I find it hard to believe this was the best they could get for him. Both were expiring deals and should have been able to net the Pacers something much better. Welcome to the Kevin Pitchard era... dude ruin the Trail Blazers and their fan base couldn't get rid of him quick enough.

Maybe they had to add in Collison to get rid of Dahntay Jones contract and clear more cap space ... my guess is they will still try to add a scorer.

Well, Mahinmi was given a new deal, 4 years for $16m. Actually a pretty cap friendly deal if he pans out. That said, usually you acquire the better talent in the NBA through sign and trades or straight trades. The fact they gave up two expiring deals, they either love this kid or have something else on the burner.

I certainly hope so! If this is a hint to things to come in the second DW era; well. . . .

Keywords: have something else on the burner. Time will tell but I like Pritchard. I need to do a little more digging to find the dirt on him. It's too easy to point fingers before the final pieces are in place. I hated to lose Dahntay for some reason. Collison started huge and then seemingly headed the wrong direction IMO.

I don't have much use for Vecsey:

@Pacers @MikeWellsNBA @DraftExpress Mahinmi is a solid backup center. Good pickup by Pacers

According to reports, they'd been looking at both Green and Mahinmi in recent weeks, so this isn't a surprise. They clear cap space and improve a bench that was horribly disappointing this post-season. Jones and Collison were done in Indy. Jones was brought in at a time when the team was really struggling and needed defense, that time has come and gone. Collison had to go once Hill beat him out to become the team's starting PG. He wasn't going to be happy coming off the bench. Meanwhile you clear cap space for the signings of Hibbert and some other free agents - DJ Augustin, Green. I don't see this as being a bad deal. It shakes things up, improves some positions that needed to be addressed. And for what little its worth, Plumlee hasn't looked bad in what little I've seen of the summer league games. I'm feeling okay with this summer so far.

Also looks like Mahinmi was drawing quite a bit of interest.

Not what I was expecting from the Pacers, but time will tell, I guess. The Pacers seem to make a lot of questionable moves.
