I thought they did a good job with the football review. Looking at the points scored and allowed though doesn't really tell the full story, both for the good and the very bad.

The second linked story was pretty darned good. I would say that's the most accurate, best thought out and researched story we'll read on the Sycamores all season outside of the Tribune-Star.

Yeah, Penn State is going to win that game. But I thought they didn't paint us to be the laughingstock that someone who did no research at all would...

A little more research though would show what we all know (and I don't really expect them to dig that deep) but game-by-game numbers would better illustrate how awful the offense was those first two seasons. Remember how we were more optimistic about the D in years one and two under Miles because it wasn't as bad as what we'd seen previously, especially considering the offense couldn't get a first down. That's why many of us were a little disappointed the D didn't do better last year, once we finally had a good offense.

Penn State fans ripping on another school's mascot. Really? The Nittany Lion mascot looks like some kid's favorite stuffed toy that has seen better days. It's pitiful. And the Nittany Lion name is made up, too.

This is supposed to be intimidating?

The whole mascot thing is truly annoying. Yes...we're a tree. Guess what?...so is Standford. I don't seem to hear too many people making fun of Stanford's "mascot." Why is it okay for them to be a tree but not ISU. It just seems like a dumb thing to make fun of a university for. You would hope somebody could be a little more creative than that.

The 'difference' is that Stanford's nickname is the 'Cardinal' (color, not bird)
Yes, they have a dude / dudette / something dressed up in a very bad tree suit BUT everytime a sportscaster yaps about Stanford, it's the Cardinal, not the tree...

As to any 'nittany' lion fan slinging mud at us for the fox or being the Sycamroes...

5 minutes of research will show that 49 universities/colleges use a synonym for 'nittany lions*' as their mascot!!!

* = Cougars - 20
Panthers - 21
Pumas - 2
Catamounts - 2
Golden Panthers - 1
Nittany Lions - 1
Mountain Lions - 1
Mountain Cats - 1

Since their mascot isn't an African Lion, I'll NOT include those additional 16 schools. I'll even overlook the fact that lions, tigers, cheetahs, leopards, jaguars, etc, etc are ALL big cats; while they are different, it's akin to all of the schools that use eagles, hawks, falcons, etc -- they're all raptors.

Thought the alumni list they CHOSE to use was 'interesting,' why not include Kurt Thomas? John Wooden? Tony George? The rest of the IMS Front Office? Josue Robles, Jr? Tommy John? sh*t Tunch Ilkin?!?!

PSU grads I know can be pretty smug; they're NOT as bad as north crook, gloomington, uk fans; but they definitely have their moments.

Great that this game is on the schedule; hope they play hard, no injuries; great that it's on TV

Wooden wasn't an ISU grad, but I follow your argument.

Also, when I think Burl Ives, I can't say his part in Rudolph is the first thing that comes to mind.

Wooden got a Master's degree at ISU, so he is an alum!

Burl Ives died owing Indiana State money...:naughty:

Thanks for the assist ITF.

Alumni = a graduate or former student of a specific school, college, or university.

Realize people only THINK graduate; especially UNDERGraduate but ANYONE with a BA/BS, MA/MS or PhD, other doctorate IS an alumnus or alumnae
