This is very disturbing! This is going to be a HUGE black eye for one of the most storied programs in the country. I think Joe Pa has to be held accountable too if he knew ANYTHING about any of this going on...very sicking!

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- Two top Penn State officials charged with covering up allegations of an explosive child-sex abuse scandal related to former defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky stepped down late Sunday after an emergency meeting of the university's Board of Trustees.

Penn State athletic director Tim Curley requested to be placed on administrative leave so he could devote the time needed to defend himself against perjury and other charges, university president Graham Spanier said. Gary Schultz, vice president for finance and business, will step down and go back into retirement, Spanier said. He declined to comment to reporters after the meeting.

Resignations of famed football coach Joe Paterno and Spanier weren't discussed at the meeting, which was arranged Sunday and lasted two hours, university spokesman Bill Mahon said.

The whole thing makes me sick.

Paterno should be in trouble also.

The graduate student went to JoPa the day after seeing the asst coach sodomizing a 10 year old boy and joPas reply was to pass it up the line? ok, so after he did this why not follow through ? The coach should have been suspended with pay for investigation. The program was more important that the 10 year old boy......disgusting

From what I understand, Sandusky was not on the coaching staff when Paterno was informed about it. Therefore, it was not Paterno's respnosibility to handle it. He took the information to his superiors and testified about what he knew before the grand jury. Joe Paterno did nothing wrong from what I've read.

Yeah I just saw something on ESPN that said basically that this guy may have never been caught if Paterno hadn't reported it

Penn State scandal forces 1st ouster...

PSU AD Tim Curley on Admin Leave... and charged with perjury...

http://www.usatoday.com/sports/college/football/story/2011-11-05/penn-state-abuse-case/51083628/1

http://articles.philly.com/2011-11-06/news/30366682_1_joe-paterno-jerry-sandusky-tim-curley

Here's a very 'easy fix' (for starters)...

Fire the AD, Fire every person between the AD and Paterno (if there are any)
Fire Paterno; Fire the person the AD reports to.

Questions?

And the successor to Paterno should PROBABLY not be a PSU player, ass't coach or otherwise associated with the University.

I think you are right about how PSU shouldn't hire a PSU player...I think maybe an Urban Meyer would be a perfect fit there, a great recruiter in one of (If not the best) recruiting grounds in the country.

The guy was in the PSU lockeroom shower sodomizing a 10 year old boy. Paterno needed to do ALOT more. He was around the program for years after this happened. Fire JoePa and clear out anything close to this, or it willhang around for ever

I don't see Urban Meyer coaching at the Div I level; unless he really gets his health issues resolved (and receives his wife's OK)

That's absurd. If Paterno and the administration reported it back in '02, he would have been arrested then instead of allowing him to go on abusing others. This was about covering it up because the university didn't want an awful story like this to get out. They just made things far, far worse.

Hey, I was just regurgitating what I heard lol. The more I read the more I am disgusted

"If true, the nature and amount of charges made are very shocking to me and all Penn Staters," Paterno said. "While I did what I was supposed to with the one charge brought to my attention, like anyone else involved I can't help but be deeply saddened these matters are alleged to have occurred."

Can't be too shocking to him if one of his grad students tells him one of his ex coaches is sodomizing a 10 year old in the shower. Sounds like Pontius Pilate washing his hands of this mess !!

The hell with taking it to his supervisor, I would have called the police myself!

This will become...

the WORST college football scandal in the history of the NCAA.

Worse than the Pony Express crap at SMU; worse than the student loan lies at The U (Miami, FLA); worse than the cocaine ring at Oklahoma during Switzer time; worse that the Kim Dunbar stuff at notre dame.

I'm not sure I'd even give Paterno the chance to retire -- Fire Him!

Penn State is in a tough spot. Firing Paterno after everything he's accomplished and meant to your school can't be easy. They couldn't push him to retire, now they have to fire him? But he should be pressured to step down and if he won't, he should be fired. It's just bad. There is no way to deny that it is really, really bad. Plausible deniability is bad enough in politics and with a crime like this it is just unacceptable.

Had they addressed these crimes 9 years ago, they wouldn't be in a 'tough spot' today.

No Schadenfreude on this issue, however, Paterno and Graham Spanier (PSU President) need to be accountable. Paterno should resign, if he doesn't, Spanier should fire him.

Talking about the administration, the alums, students - people who knew nothing about this and are suddenly being slammed with it after nearly five decades idolizing Paterno. That's tough, but there is no doubt what the right thing to do is. It's not to let Paterno keep coaching, which basically would condone his inaction and ignore the significance of what happened.
