We have had a great response to this MOCK Starting Line Up, thanks to everyone who has participated so far! The 2 polls have combined for over 100 votes which gives us a pretty good sample size! This will work like the previous 2 polls. The only rule: For example, If you voted for Jake Kelly to be PG and Lathan for SG then you can't vote for either of those guys to play SF - makes sense?

Koang Doluony 6'7 FR

Dwyane Lathan 6'3 SO

Jordan Printy 6'4 SO

Aaron Carter 6'4 JR

Carl Richard 6'5 SO

Jake Kelly 6'6 JR

R.J. Mahurin 6'8 FR

Logan Eitel 6'4 FR

Lucas Eitel 6'4 FR

Please take a moment to share why you voted for who you did... It takes 45+ votes to have a fair enough sample size to move on to the PF position.

Looks like we're going to have a big lineup.

I watched Iowa vs Wisconsin on the big 10 network last night. Kelly had 12. He's good.

Watching Landry and wondering if Carl could be that kind of player. Shorter, of course, but can shoot outside and also rebound. Inside moves will get better for Carl. Needs to work on handling and J.

Lathan

My vote is for Lathan. Best talent on the team from what I've heard.

I think Carl is DEFINITELY a 4 on this team and based on his play right now. I don't think Coach will set his lineup based on this poll.
That's why I was comparing him to Landry; an inside/outside guy.

I love this poll. I think it's fun but it ain't working. Carl at 3 is a consequence of not having Harry in there and some people have already used their perimeter people.

I voted for Kelly... I like his size and I want a 3 guard line-up. I don't think Richard shoots the ball well enough to play SF - I think he is more of a PF. I would really like to see Harry, Lathan and Kelly all 3 starting... I don't know that the votes will work out that way but that's just what I would like to see... Oh well we will see how things turn out.

I voted for AC. I like the way he hustles, had several games last year where he just always seemed to be near the ball. I think he could really break out this year. He is now an "upperclassman". Would love to see him have some games where he puts it all together. Showed flashes last year, but was inconsistent. I think he could average 10 pts a game if he gets consistent.

Richards will be the consensus for the "4".

Thanks for explaining your vote... The only one who voted for Carter that had the balls to explain why. I will give you the fact that he hustles but hes still a step slower than everyone on the court. He has a below average shot, his rebounding is average, he does not pass or handle the ball well. Anytime he goes to the rack he puts his head down and goes baseline (it never works out for him).

With all the talent on this team if AC is in the starting 5 then their ought to be an investivgation... That dude is not one of the top 7 players on this team. Sorry man.

I agree. He could score 10 with his eyes shut. I remember times last year where he was going around his man anytime he wanted. He just needs to get to the lane and finish. He has the vertical and to be a good rebounder and defender and is an excellent shooter.
Among the returnees, he's 5th on the team in minutes, and 3rd in scoring, points, fg%, 3fg% and rebounds.

On a team that won 11 games again I remind you of this...

Then you add Lathan and Kelly to the mix and he will be no better than 7th on the team in mins and no better than 5th on the team in scoring...

That is sooo simple... When did AC drive past anyone? The guy is slow. He does play hard - can't take that away from him. But this kid will not be in the top 7 in mins on this team next year... Sorry I just don't see it. Unless his game vastly improves.

If healthy, AC will see his fair share of minutes...my guess is he'll see 15 or so a game as he can fill in at a couple different spots.

3+2=7

New math, I guess.

New math, I guess.

Well I can debate that equation: Look you said he was 5th on the team in mins. last season. You add 3 new players to the mix (Kelly, Lathan, Koang) and that could put him as low as 8th in mins. played. You subtract 1 because Jay left, and that presumably puts him 7th.

The new equation:

5+3-1= 7

No need to debate math, but he was 3rd in most stats of returning players. So I figured 3+2=5. I'm not figuring Doluony will affect his PT, although he could. Especially if Carl gets any time at 3.

The bottom line is that he is better than you think. If he is, that's better for both of us.

Morgan,
This poll is not working and I'm trying to figure out why. I think it's the rule you had that you couldn't vote for a player again. Did you mean if you voted for Harry for PG and Jake won the PG poll, that you couldn't vote for Harry for 2G? ( I hope I'm misstating the rule the way you gave it.)

Looking back, it may be only be that did not understand the rules. Heck I don't know. But for some reason Harry got left out and I don't think many would vote for that.

Maybe the rules to the poll did not make it accurate - I am not sure. I just thought this would be a neat idea. The rule was put into place to keep people from voting for Jake Kelly to be the starting PG, SG and SF. You see what I am saying? I mean many of us would have voted for Jake Kelly to play PG or SG.

My intent for the rule was that if you voted for Jake Kelly at PG and he won then you obviously couldn't vote for Jake Kelly at SG. If you voted for Harry at PG and he lost then you could vote for him again at SG. This allows you to adjust your line up as we go.

When this is all done I will make a thread that shows the starting line up based on the votes then you and everyone else can tell us what you really think the starting lineup should be. Heck if 40+ people post their starting line-up then we should have pretty good discussion I would think...

Sorry it didn't work perfectly...

I mean here is the thing we have had 2 years to watch him get quality mins. on bad basketball teams and he has really done nothing that jumps off the page at you in my mind... He might be better than I am giving him credit for I don't know... Just based on what I have seen I really don't think that is the case. I just don't see him as to much of a threat on either side of the ball... But if he is better than I am giving him credit for - heck yeah that makes us that much deeper.

Don't apologize. I appreciate you doing it. I have enjoyed the poll and the discussion that it has created.

Morgan, I agree with a lot of what you have said about Carter. I remember several games where he was like a bull in a china shop and just seemed to be playing too fast and out of control. I just think there were flashes last year and if he can play a little more under control and keep the hardnosed play, he could break out. It is not uncommon to see a player really make a jump between thier sophomore and junior years, and I think he will. Hope I am right!:sycamores:
