In case you want to see what we're up against next week, Purdue is playing Marshall on Fox Sports 1 right now. I can't tell if anyone in this game is playing defense.

Purdue does have a big, bruising running back, and their line is opening holes for him, so our defense will need to plug those holes. And Appleby isn't afraid to throw it down field. We'll see how our defense is prepared to handle them for 60 minutes.

From what I can tell, our offense will have opportunities. The extra 22 scholarships undoubtedly will come into play in the second half. But if Purdue wins today, will they be looking past us to their game the next week against VA Tech?

You guys agree or do you see other things?

So far I totally agree with your observations on the D being played today. The Boilers will provide a good test for our D. The deciding factor in our game may very well be the depth in talent due to the discrepancy in scholarships. I certainly isn't going to be easy, but I don't think it's impossible either. Let's go Sycamores!!!

Big backs and running QB's seem to have been very difficult for us to handle recently......i.e. last season IU RB, Chattanooga QB & about 1/2 of MVC teams seem to have had one or the other and we did not contain any of them well. Think we project very good vs a passer but school still out vs a run game?

Purdue's o-line will test our defense. They're wearing Marshall out. We'll need everyone to play well to have a chance. Big, experienced unit.

Marshall beat Purdue 41-31. Didn't see the game, but clearly not very impressive.

I don't know how good Bowling Green is, but if Purdue doesn't beat us there is a decent chance they don't win a game until they play Indiana.

It's meltdown city on the Purdue rivals board.

Wow. You're certainly right about that! But they're all very confident that they'll "throttle" us next week. I know we have our work cut out for us with those lines, but I like our chances to keep this game close, and if we can keep it close, who knows what can happen. We've got a pretty good defense, you know.

Could be a good game!

They just assume we're the same old Indiana State and know nothing about us. And they think they're better than they were two years ago when we almost beat them (and also only had one win).

What I find interesting is some of them talking down to the Marshall fans, like Purdue fans have anything to feel superior about.

I doubt if Purdue will "overlook" us. After all, it was only two years ago, wasn't it, that the Boilermakers beat us, 20-14? Coach Hazell's record at Purdue is 4-21. With that record he wouldn't overlook Lafayette Jeff.

Marshall won the Conference USA title last year with a 13-1 record, was ranked 19th in the nation and defeated Northern Illinois in the Boca Raton Bowl, 52-23. Its only loss was, 67-66, in overtime on the road against Western Kentucky.

Purdue looked like a much better team against Marshall than the team we played a couple of years ago. With Bell playing, we win that game. Our DL is key-Purdue's OL gave up a ton of presuure against Marshall, and Appleby was throwing the ball up for grabs. I'm sure they'll be focusing on correcting that, and will likely try to run the ball down our throats with some downfield throws mixed in. We will have to play much better than we did last week, and much better than we played in any game last season for that matter, but it's possible.

I agree with you on this. I thought Purdue was a better looking team than the one we played in 2013. There D Line is a decent group and will put pressure on our guys up front, Matt Adam decision making will be tested. The O Line wont get the consistent 5 yard push against Purdue that we had against Butler.

I don't doubt Purdue has improved and will be a tough opponent, but they're very much beatable. This is not a quality Big 10 team we're playing. They have many questions at quarterback and with their secondary. We can win!!!
