I'm wondering if any players will be around for his visit-most are heading home for the holidays. He has good size and a good background. Hopefully he will accept and enroll for the spring. We really need an athletic passing QB. This is the biggest key to having more success next season.

what about Stutzriem? Will he stay around? I hope so, he seemed like a good kid, good student and all.

Does he have many options?

I hope so -- Stutzriem red-shirted at Wyoming, played a season for the Cowboys; then transferred here. He only has two years of eligibility left; he makes a lateral transfer or returns to FBS and he loses one year.

Would he lose a year for dropping to Div II?

IMO -- Stutzriem isn't going anywhere unless TMiles wants him to leave. (Would THAT be a bit of a PR nightmare?)

He would not lose a year dropping down, but I agree, he will stay here. I think with a better O-Line next year Stutzriem could contribute. In the games he played, he appeared to be a poised, confident QB--he just lacked the mobility needed to perform behind an inexperienced line, and his seeming lack of arm strength surprised me. He seems to be a great kid, never making any noise about his situation, and supporting the other QBs. At the worst, he's a good backup, at best, he could be what we expected and needed when he transferred here.

I don't know of many QBs (even mobile or 'running' QBs) who can do much without a good line

Stutzriem isn't going anywhere.

We're in the running for a QB with Oregon State and New Mexico State? I hope that's enough to mean he's pretty good.

True. If we could protect him for 3-4 seconds he could darn well surprise the heck out of everyone.

And the line was playing better toward the end of the year. Hopefully that carries over into next season. We've seen how much having a strong defensive line has helped, now we need a strong line on offense as well. Until you have a good line, you really have no way of knowing just how good the rest of your players are.

Things that Chris needs to do in order to compete for a starting job....

Lose weight.

Gain more mobility.

Work on his throwing motion. He needs to develop a consistent throwing motion. He needs to throw the football a bunch this off season. He needs to develop a consistent throwing motion. He needs to get with the returning receivers and throw to them every day.
