Is the school going to have any kind of recognition event or ceremony to publicly acknowledge the season Shakir Bell just had? To honor him in some way for making all those All-America teams and for finishing second in the Walter Payton Award voting?

In terms of post-season accolades, it's probably the best single-season of any Indiana State football player in the history of the program.

I've just had several people ask me in person, call, text or email me and I don't know what to tell them.

It would be nice to do during a basketball game.

You shouldn't have to tell them anything - it probably should have already been done. I would be very surprised if he isn't recognized at the game Sunday. That is the least they could do.

I agree...man...we fall short in this area at indiana state...lets take larry bird...we dont' do enough for him...we let him give speeches at basketball games....this guy is not only a NBA legend...but one of the best to play the sport..it was amazing when lebron decided to go to miami...the NBA called three people to ask their opinion...magic, michael, and larry...that should say something.....his pictures should be all over the school...larry bird should be all over the freaking place...show some repsect and honor...I don't care if people try to make fun of us and call us larry bird university....I'll put his resume up against anyone famous from anyone's school.....Now shakir bell..this kid was told by everyone he wasn't going to make it....he should have an interview on the news...the first sophmore to be nominated in history...three all america's as a sophmore...Even our record holders now...at the homecoming game last year..dietrich lapsley wasn't let on the field because he was a lil late....this guy is a record holder for tackles...nobody knew who he was and nobody cared that he was a great player and put his body on the line and did great things for the program...dude can't even get a field pass...do you think he wants to donate his money now? Miles has done the best for the alumni but we need to do more...and we def need to do more for shakir....people that have gone to the nfl or former all american players...announce something like over the pa..."hey we are glad to have former all american so and so with us a round of applause..." takes ten seconds and is good taste....I saw a southern illinois game a few years ago...they did a segment for joel sambursky their former QB...did he go to the nfl? NO...he was a great player for siu and they appreciated him....showed some of his highlights...and that was forever ago and they still appreciated him....during a game....We are all family and sometimes it is fun to see what big brother did on the field before you got there, and it is fun for big brothers to watch little bro play now...

We better honor shakir in a big way. Think about what he's done just in two years at isu and still two more to go. As for Larry Bird it makes me sick that we still have yet to put up a statue of him, yes the relationship has gotten better with him. I even heard he'd come back if we ever got the statue up like we were supposed to with the larry bird foundation. Hope it happens soon.

Last Men's game the announcer showcased Carl Nicks in attendance... had him stand up and be recognized.

Let's hope that the powers that be read this thread.....

and decide to do something special for Shakir very soon. He really deserves it for the honors that he brought to himself, the football program and the university.

Do we not hold enough sway as an alumni group to make suggestions like this and expect them to be heard? I sure would hope we do.

Hell, I think ISU shortchanged the hanging of the banner for the basketball team from last year's MVC tourney championship. It just showed up on the wall at the first game. We don't win a lot of things that good, and don't have Shakirs very often.

We need to promote the hell out of any such positive accomplishments as often as we can.
