These are just random thoughts that popped in my head during the game last night......

It was a great turnout by Sycamore faithful. My wife went to get some souvenirs from vendors in the arena and went to three different places looking for shirts with Indiana State on them. One of the vendors said that he can't keep ISU stuff out, it all gets bought up. He said other than Ohio State (obviously) ISU stuff was the hottest selling item by far. He told her "you guys brought a lot of people" and then told her that he still had plenty of Syracuse stuff. When she told me that, I have to admit it did bring a smile to my face.

On that point, I was surprised that Syracuse didn't bring more people. I guess I was expecting a sea of Orange. They didn't have that big of a turnout in their section and even though many were spread out around the arena, not nearly as many as I expected.

Our Pep Band DESTROYED Syracuse's. I am not sure why Syracuse even brought theirs. They only played about five songs all night, while ours went from song to song to song. They were great (not that I was surprised). Sycamore Sam was great too! They all brought a TON of energy to the game.

Does Syracuse have a fight song? Each time our fight song was played, everyone in blue stood and clapped. At the end of the game, Syracuse played a song (maybe it wasn't their fight song). I saw maybe a third of their fans stand and clap, the rest just stood there and some didn't even do that.

I don't know if many people in that arena that aren't ISU fans fully appreciated how good some of those passes by Jake Odum were last night. We didn't finish many of them, but they were still amazing looks.

I was very depressed after the game, not only because of the loss but because I will never get to see Jake Kelly, Aaron Carter or Isiah Martin in blue again. However, the future is bright and I could not have been prouder last night among all the blue to be a Sycamore. Fans were loud and into the game all night.

Best of luck to Syracuse on the rest of the tournament and hope all members of the Sycamore Nation made (or make) it home safe.

Here is hoping we all meet again in St. Louis on Sunday in 2012!!!!

Good thoughts. Odum should have had double digit assists if we could have converted some of those shots underneath. I think our guys need to do reverse layups by going under the rim and coming up on the other side a lot more often. Something else to work on for next year......................

Exactly, use the goal to block out the defender…….and as i posted in another thread, work on FOOTWORK to get in position to be mobile on the block. Develop a step through, an effective fake and a strong pivot.

Great post Bluethunder......Your thoughts put me in a much better mood today after our loss......now I am so ready to pull the trigger and purchase season tickets for next year.

Just a few thoughts on the weekend in Cleveland. We spent Friday evening with a number of friends from Terre Haute we don't get to see too often. The pep rally @ the Intercontinental was terrific. The atmosphere was like homecoming on steroids. We waited to send the team off to the arena. Probably over 100 people stayed to wish them well and the scene was electric. We far outnumbered the Syracuse contingent at the game and were far more supportive and vocal than the Orange fans and yes our band was vastly superior. I spoke with several Syracuse supporters and they were impressed by the Sycamore faithful. Syracuse is the same distance to Cleveland as Indianapolis. I really can't stand our mascot (the character, not the person in the suit) Sycamore Sam, but after seeing the "Orange" from Syracuse he/she/it looks good by comparison. As for the game, we proved we belong and can play with the best. Yes we lost but we have every reason to be very optimistic about the future. The experience and exposure will be very beneficial for recruiting both student athletes and undergraduates. This one event has raised the profile of ISU nationally. Selection Sunday on TV I thought the Student Rec Center trumped all the other team sites across the country. Go Trees!

Those are encouraging observations. Let's hope that the University can use this event as a building stone for a bigger and better future.
