Pretty emotional video here, brings back a lot of memories for me. I can't tell you how much of a Dale Earnhardt fan I was and still am today. He was my childhood hero and when he died it was a sad, sad day for me at 13 years of age.

That weekend I had been playing in an AAU tourney in Bloomington, IN and we finished up on Sunday afternoon and made it over to a restaurant to catch the end of the race before we headed back to the Haute. I remember watching that accident and first of all being excited that Dale's cars had finished ahead of him, in the same respect kinda upset that Dale had crashed. I surely never expected that he would have been fatally injured, we headed back to T.H and still no word...

I went down to my best friend's house (now also deceased) and we (his family and I) glued to the TV trying to hear something and the doorbell ran, we thought it was the pizza guy. It was my dad, he came down the street to tell me that Dale had died - about that same time the announcement was made on the TV. My dad wanted to be the one to tell me because he knew how hard I'd take it. It was rough.

I came home from school on the day of his funeral to watch it on TV. The guy was more of a legend to his sport and more of a hero to people across the country than any other athlete in the history.

Do you all have a memory? Remember what you did, where you were when you found out?

I don't have anything positive to say about Earnhardt, so I'll respectfully refrain. As far as today's race goes, I enjoyed that it began with Martina McBride. I hope it ends with Tony Stewart in the winner's circle. Go Smoke!

I was 17. And I can vividly remember everything about that accident. The moment where you hear "We've lost..." is one of only a few memories I have of my step father being moved to tears. I'm not a huge NASCAR fan, but I'll never forget that moment.

That was a great race today. Before the race I wanted my guy, Carl, to win and I said Trevor Bayne was the real deal from the start. And so it ended up with the two finishing at One and Two! Way to go guys! (:
