SycamoreTree

The Varsity Level
I think he would be a huge get for the trees. I wonder what that back story is of him wanting out at IU he got some pretty good minutes.

I don't think you waste the last scholarship this year for his transfer year. We need immediate help now IMO.

He would be a great player for us. I agree we need some help immediately but i'd take a high quality transfer like Abell over a JC kid who might or might not help us next year. If there is a guy we know can come in and give us immediate help i'd take him but after that i'd take a kid like Abell who would for sure upgrade our talent for the following two years. But I Don't realistically see him coming here. I'd like to grab a kid like him though if we can providing there is no JC stud who wants to come here.

There are 179 JUCO/Prep school kids that are uncommitted and have scholarship offers per Juco Junction -- only 34 of those being JUCO players. So you're right that the pool is damn near dry at this point. You'll likely have around 200 more transfers announced in May when kids start to graduate and decide to go elsewhere.

Yeah that was my point. Second tier JC guys or HS kids most likely wont crack our rotation for next year. So grab a transfer once the dust settles. A talented 5th year guy is ideal but there is going to be a lot of competition for those guys. Grabbing a talented guy who can help us in '14 would be the next best scenario IMO.

We don't know if Abell would be an upgrade here, either. He was originally committed to Bradley and then recruited by IU as a stopgap before Crean could get recruiting going. If he is in the 2013 class, I don't know we take him over Scott. I'd rather use the scholarship on a one-year kid. There is the big from Bama and one form Lamar. I'd take either over Abell because even if they don't work out, they're gone and we keep class balance.

I want a solid 5th year guy but there is no doubt in my mind Abell would be a very good player for us or anyone in the valley. He was the 7th man on the most or one of the most talented teams in the nation this year as a true Soph. Cant convince me that as a redshirt JR he wouldn't be a starter or 6th man for us. He would of been a steal for Bradley if he would of stayed committed there.

Abell was a very nice backup for Ferrell and Hulls. He has a really good shot and has some nice size. I'd like to see in an Indiana State jersey. He'll be a great player where ever he ends up.

That's all fine and good, but he would create a serious log jam, throw off the class balance we're now close to having and eat a scholarship. Matters not, I hear he has his eyes on a big program.

I am just curious. What school are you are hearing about in regards to Abell? Peegs had a message board rumor of Western Kentucky and IUPUI.

I agree with everything about Abell being a really good player. It probably wouldn't be an area of need with Scott and McIntosh coming in but I am sure he would help. It will be interesting to see what other transfer options come about in May.

WKU is what I had heard as well. They're also getting Chris Harrison-Docks from Butler, too. They'll have a nice backcourt if he does go there.

Sounds like somebody down at Western Kentucky is getting some hoops recruits down that way?
