Anybody know if we are recruiting his son? If he wants to stay in Indiana and not go to Georgia State I'd gladly take him. I know he is great friends with K. Smith and he is a sniper from deep. Coach Lansing go get him!

Not as far fetched as it initially appears to be. Even if Georgia State is not necessarily a big name; neither is IUPUI. He is trading Indy for Atlanta, better weather (most of the time), sounds like more money, an opportunity to be in a more than one-bid league and not having to constantly compete with Butler for notoriety, respect, etc. Nobody in the Atlanta area will overshadow his efforts (GA Tech......yeah right) ?

I find that statement confusing. Georgia Tech has a huge fan base in Atlanta. Atlanta is not a great sports city, truthfully, but Georgia Tech has a long history in both basketball and football. Georgia State is not only in the Yellow Jacket's shadow, they're on the dark side of the moon compared to them.

Georgia Tech's basketball history is getting pretty ancient I believe? Now football gets resurrected every few years but their basketball ????????????????? Gimmee a break!

Over the years, Ron Hunter grew on me here in Indy. He's a high-energy guy and a great representitive for IUPUI (let's not forget the women's hoop problems there) but for the life of me, I could NEVER get excited about the Jags because they play in that crackerbox of a gym. Heritage Christian has a nicer gym than IUPUI and it just seems so small-time, it was hard to take them seriously. I know they play a few games in Conseco but why do that when they have only 2,000 there to watch them. Equally as small-time, imo.

My guess is that the facilities are nicer at Georgia State and they draw better than the 1,600 they have at Jag's games. What I don't understand is WHY he would not try harder to elevate up above mid-major status because I think he is not that bad a coach and has certainly put his time in to deserve a shot somewhere. My guess is that being a Jag was simply getting old for him.

Well, he wanted to be a Sycamore when McKenna left, so I'm not sure it is for sake of trying. I think he has wanted out of IUPUI for awhile now.

Georgia Tech made the NCAA tournament last year. Last made the Final Four in 2004 and finished as the runner up. I don't call that ancient. They're also in the ACC, bit of a step up from Butler.

Tech averaged around 6,000 in attendance. Not great. Georgia State meanwhile averaged 900 for attendance this year. Again, bit of a difference.

Ha............ISU_TREE_FAN made you google the info on the Ramblin' Wreck didn't he? Are they really in the ACC; don't remember them until well after Duke, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Wake Forest, Maryland, Virginia etc. etc. etc. There basketball following is "mid-major" at best. To put it another way, Ron Hunter will co-exist in Atlanta better than in Indianapolis. He had done about all he could do at IUPUI.

Yeah, I looked it up, but it was easy enough to find on wikipedia. I certainly don't walk around with that much knowledge about Georgia Tech in my head. I remembered GT being better than was claimed, and obviously they are. I still don't get how he's better off in Atlanta from comparing Butler and Georgia Tech.
