Look for him to go to a much faster paced system. This should help make our game next year up in Mackey more winnable.

What? I don't understand.

Purdue running the floor at a fast paced system, will lose to a slow poke motion offense system, and that will make it more winnable for us how? Maybe you meant to say that a different way. Are you saying that Purdue is going to have a lot of turnovers?

No... Im saying Johnson wants to play in a more up tempo offense. Im also saying that because Purdue is losing their only PG with any college experience we should stand a better chance of winning up there next season.

Here is the inside scoop on the situation from Gold & Black Illustrated. IU's Jeremy Hollowell could also be leaving IU to play along with Johnson.

Here is what happened

Johnson's father, Terone Sr., has been unhappy with Purdue and really drove this. Not-enough-shots kind of thing, seems like, along with some other points of contention.

Terone Johnson Sr. has been the one putting word out that a transfer would happen, so that's why schools have been lining up behind the scenes to get involved. Not sure how long that has been going on, but there was that meeting with Matt Painter around Christmas.

When Terone Johnson committed to Purdue while Terone Sr. was incarcerated, dad sent letters to many of the schools who also recruited Terone, based off Internet database recruiting lists, inviting, or urging, them to continue recruiting his oldest son, since he didn't commit to Purdue with dad involved, and thus considering the commitment invalid. That's why Cincinnati followed Terone Johnson around the entire summer prior to him signing with Purdue.

The player himself hasn't been a complete pawn, for lack of a better term, in this, though. He has expressed some style-of-play concerns in terms of wanting to play more up-tempo. The get-it-inside portion of Purdue's offense didn't jibe terribly well with either Johnson brother the past two seasons. We have talked to so many people about this the past few weeks we can't keep it all straight but there were also some concerns on player/family part about coaches having "confidence" in him or instilling "confidence" in him.

There was that meeting around Christmas, some of Painter's message being about being a better "teammate." Don't know if Painter used the term "bad teammate" or not, but that, from what we're told, is how it came across. Didn't go over well.

Not sure what to say there, but every kid is different. There is validity, also, to the reports of Johnson and Jeremy Hollowell of Indiana discussing transferring somewhere they can play together. They are very close.

We did not include that dynamic in our initial report on this Thursday night as to not step on somebody else's transfer news, but since it's already reported, yes, it's true.

Ronnie Johnson and Painter were supposed to meet in person next week. We are now told today's phone conversation was initiated by the Purdue coach and that it was not exactly a plea to stay. Johnson's release was sent via e-mail.

We believe that mom, Rona, wanted Ronnie Johnson to stay at Purdue. Don't know where younger Terone fell in this, but we haven't seen or sensed any sort of bitterness on his part. He was obviously disappointed in how his Purdue career ended, but as an outsider, it seemed as if he left with a solid feeling about his time at Purdue and spoke favorably about Painter in situations where he didn't necessarily have to.

Keep in mind that there were two brothers involved, so thus twice the land mines to step on in terms of offending those in the players' inner circle. Terone Johnson didn't start at Nebraska and that might have been one more log on this fire, even though it was not the first time, nor will it be the last, such a move is made with a senior at Purdue when a team is struggling. For his part, Terone Johnson didn't seem thrilled about it, but showed no signs of thinking he got a particularly raw deal. But again, we're outsiders here.

Ronnie Johnson's transfer came as no surprise to Purdue.

We can tell you for fact based on the best source there is that as of Wednesday night, Purdue didn't know what was going to happen. It wanted Ronnie Johnson back, but didn't want any more drama.

We will take an in-depth look at what this means for both sides later.

Ronnie Johnson and Terone Johnson Sr. were not immediately reachable for comment Saturday.

Both of those guys had offers here. It's too bad they had to have the name brand school instead. Good luck to wherever they land. Will say that will be hard to do for some schools since they'd be eating 2 scholarships for the transfer year.

A lot of schools wouldn't touch them. Sounds like Johnson has baggage and is not a team player. Hollowell hasn't had much success on a bad IU team and has been benched several games.

That makes a lot of sense to me. I've seen a lot of teams trying to play fast this year and looking stupid. We play a lot smarter than most teams. Of course, we have to play slower since we don't have the speed of the high major teams.
Brown is our only rabbit. He needs to watch film of Aaron Craft and watch how he creates or finds his driving lanes.

Kids are talented but I wouldn't touch them with a ten- foot pole.

Products of their respective coaches IMO. Painter let it go on and well Crean is Crean. I think if both had come in here together as freshman and had Lansing showing them the system, paired with Gant, man, would have been interesting to see how it worked out.

Now don't forget that Lansing can't coach. LOL
