Todd Golden's 2 part interview

There’s no point in tip-toeing around the biggest issue that the Indiana State football team has faced in its offseason. In the wake of starting quarterback Matt Adam’s departure from the team after he was an academic casualty, the Sycamores were left perilously thin at the most important position on the field.

So, if I'm to take Sanford's comments at face value, Adam is gone forever and not just this year? Is that how anyone else read that with his "moved on" comment?

That is my guess, a lot of people went the extra mile for him and he let them down.

Yeah, I can understand that.

Here is the problem I have with that whole situation. You don't just all the sudden fail out and there were rumors last year that his grades were terrible. Really wonder why they didn't sit him knowing you had Kline here and have him get his academic house in order over letting him get to the point where his academics are expulsion worthy.

I'm not sure Kline lived up to their expectations, however, he never played sooooo how do we know...several coaches and football observers, whose opinions I respect, were somewhat surprised that State signed Harker..... Many thought he was Big Ten or FCS quality, how did State get him and as a walk on ...they were greatly surprised, now he is the man

Matt's a good kid. Unfortunately lacked a bit of maturity and a lot of focus. Traits that are almost impossible to coach up. I continue to believe we'll be okay at the QB position. Time to surprise some people!! Go Sycamores!!!

The frustrating part, for the first time in 4 years we have a senior lead team with several returning starters. We saw in 2014 the value of a QB with some time in the system and stays healthy. The QB play and consistency in 2014 was a big reason for the turn around and success. We were heading down that path for 2016.

That said at least with Harker you have a high level of intelligence, character, personal drive and pride. I'm not sure of his overall athletic abilities because I just haven't seen enough of him. I am excited to find out and watch him play. This kid has a "Rudy" type desire to succeed and win!

I wouldn't insult Harker by ever attaching "Rudy" to him --- Harker has far more talent (on the field, off the field, in the classroom, outside the classroom) than Ruettiger...

If you read Harker's ISU Profile -- he's a big fan of Drew Brees; Brees is a much, MUCH better role model for Harker than Ruettiger

Sounds like Kline is gone forever; Sanford and the Staff will figure it out --- Harker sounds like a heck of a building block; also nice to see his Mother's ties to State being a factor in his decision to become a Fightin' Tree.

It wasn't an insult, just the opposite it was a big compliment! The kid works his but off and just wants a chance to prove himself. Don't make more of my statement than it is.....

My point is there are far better, hard working players to compare Harker to than Ruettiger.

More on the 'rudy' character...http://www.forbes.com/sites/nathanv...dnt-have-been-chasing-the-money/#83ac43160adf

Teams across Div I FBS, Div I FCS and Div II have players in the 'rudy' profile; please don't buy into the mythology spread by hollywood
