Best of luck to Shakir. Would love nothing more than to see him playing on Sundays.
I would too...absolutely-- but nothing about the end of his college career (which is somewhat of a mystery) and nothing about his accomplishments during his college career (particularly his senior year) will make Shakir an NFL career "slam dunk." It will be a HUGE uphill battle for him to make am NFL roster and my guess, it will fall short. He may be able to sign on as a free agent but his odds of success are not good. You may not agree with me but I feel, along with others I have researched who know tons more than me about these things, that think his NFL chances are basically slim and none.

Good luck to Bell. He along with many others brought Indiana State University football back from near death. Thanks to all involved!

Good article on Shakir. Hopefully he gets a shot somewhere. Wish it had ended differently.

Some aspects of the article were good, other parts were not. Parts of the article I thought we not good:
Missing the paperwork deadline for the all-star game?
Still the mystery of his departure
Sycamores to Sickamores.

I don't think any of these things are positive or good for either Shakir or the football program. I really like Shakir, always polite and pleasant....Truly hope he gets a chance someplace where he's happy and able to earn a comfortable living. Missed seeing #22 break some of those long runs-

My guess is little "good" will come out from the sudden departure at Indiana State and as much as he downplays it, I don't buy it that it's a minor story. His final year should have been when his stats should have soared but they didn't. His commitment to Indiana State seemed done when his numbers fell far beyond positive for his quest to play in the NFL. A perception being bantered about is that once the university became expendable (in his mind), his attitude or his behavior made it impossible to continue on the team and he simply took the "easy" way out. I am not sure I agree but the perception of him quitting is NOT what the NFL seeks in it's players, especially those that are on the edge of making it.

Like most on here, I truly do not wish him bad and certainly if he did make it, it would good enough of a story to do a TV movie on it. I saw enough the previous season to have a pretty good idea he was lacking some major things that would get him into the NFL. Let's hope I am wrong and that his commitment to him, and his family, is strong enough to find him a roster sport. Sadly, the lack of commitment perception is likely what will do him in.
