The Odum Level
So it looks like he hasn't signed with anyone yet. That would be crazy if he doesn't at least get a training camp look from someone. Too early to say he won't though. He at the very least deserves a chance to make a team.

On a side note: Colts have reportedly signed four rookie free agent running backs. Kinda sucks when the NFL team in your own back yard that already has five running backs on the roster, signs four rookie free agents and you're still not one of them.

Colt's have a history of bringing in local talent too. I am disappointed but absolutely not surprised.

CFL wouldn't be a bad place for Shakir to get his start. RB Kory Sheets became a CFL star last year as Grey Cup MVP and is now a Raider.

I could see his injury history and circumstances leaving the team as factors to prevent him being drafted, but now that we're talking about him signing as a rookie free agent, all of that is really out the window. There is no risk in signing him. Might be the things that have always gone against him, his size and other measurables.

I've always been impressed when hearing him interviewed (except when he says he was projected to be the 19th pick if he went pro after his Jr year). But folks, leaving the team his Senior year was bad -- very bad for him. And most of you are forgetting this was not his first issue. He did not play in the 1st half vs Penn State his Sophomore year and was suspended for the incredibly important final game of his Junior year (we lost -- missing the playoffs).
NFL folks do not simply look at talent (which he has but size and speed are touchy for him) but the emotional and psychological maturity and type are vital. Many guys with great talent the NFL will not touch because they know there will be issues with those guys. Sad for Shakir, but he may be one of those guys, especially given that the Senior year issue was not his first.

It wasn't good, no, but I find it hard to believe that's what is keeping teams from signing him as free agent. It would be the rookie minimum, no real investment other than an off-season roster spot. I'm guessing he'll at least get some workouts. Behavioral question marks aren't good, but they don't prevent teams from signing or drafting you if you're talented enough. The Colts just drafted and brought in some rookie free agents with question marks. The kid from Ball State for example.

I suppose the difference between Newsome and Bell, is that Newsome's days at Ohio State, where the difficulties apparently happened, were recognized by him and then once he got to Ball State, he CORRECTED the issue. Bell started great and then for whatever reason (which is still basically not known, at least to the public) he quit or was let go, from the team. No improvement there at all. Quite the opposite. I am not sure too many pro teams would have signed him under those circumstances, no matter what his size and speed were. You leave a team in your senior year, you damn well better have a good excuse and he didn't. Sad indeed but totally the wrong thing to do by NFL standards.

Or how about the kid from Miami who didn't play football in college.....THAT'S what surprises me. Give a local kid a shot over an NCAA bball player.

It's all about size and speed.

The Colts have the guy from Pendleton that played bball at WMU.

It's all about size and speed. Bell did not have it.

Miles let alot "activities" surrounding Shakir be swept under the rug.

Yeah, he's a fine athlete, but there were 256 of those drafted this weekend, so the attitude ourside the white lines makes him expendable by NFL standards.

I agree with Backer, it's likely all about size and speed, and probably questions about his durability, too.

Again from twitter

Lots of colts accounts saying they will be bringing another RB in to replace the one they just released. Lots of people talking about shakir.

Ballard out for the season and Rainey cut today for violating team rules. Colts need RBs, but will likely pickup a RB, or two, once camp cuts start occurring. Anyone brought in right now is going to be one of the first players cut.
