The Starter Level
Anyone on here play slow pitch softball? I play and was just curious how many if any of the people on this board play. If you do play where do you play and what class are you if you do travel?

I wish I did, but don't where to play or how old you have to be?
Play in two leagues - one of which ended last Friday, the other of which plays on Monday nights, not this Monday night though due to rain.
I usually play left field, left center, 2b or pitcher... I am not amazing by any means, but pretty solid defensively and an average hitter... I can only go to left, strait pull hitter. Somtimes can send one to left center.

I was the manager for my co-ed team, but I wouldn't have personally let anyone under the age of 18 play on my team. My mens league team is totally different, we have a kid (middle school) that plays in right (they attempt to hide him) and on occasion if they are hurting for players they play a female (nothing wrong with the in co-ed leagues) in right center.... So if you are playing Left Center (keep in mind you usually play with 4 outfielders) then you have to cover 3 positions, your own - right center and right (impossible to do) and yes I have range...
Used to play for YEARS. I was on a very competitive team for a long time. We started out at East Glen as a class D ASA team... we have placed 3rd in the state twice (2 different teams - many years apart). We then played exclusively at Spencer, winning the Wed. night league many times.. and playing ASA Class C.. Traveled to Bloomington, Crawfordsville, Fort Wayne, Indy, Avon, etc.
Softball in TH is pretty much dead.
"Back in the day" there were leagues every night of the week at East Glen, and 4 nights a week as Spencer. Then it was cut down to Spencer... then just one night at Spencer... It's sad.
Our team quit playing about 5 years after the Miken bats ruined slow pitch softball. ANYONE could use one of those bats and hit a 340 ft. home run.... and I mean ANYONE.
If you knew me you would probably appreciate it even more. But playing in my first ever softball game this summer and it's a mens church league by Terre Haute North - pretty solid league for the most part by my standards. Anyway the first game I play we get killed - more than a 10 run rule, they like 15 run ruled us and I am fuming, not going to let anyone else see that but just kind of mad inside. Again you have to know me, it's just who I am and what keeps me going. Anyway we get done and they are like alright guys gather around and the manager whom I work with starts talking to us and then says let's say a prayer...
The first thing that goes through my mind is, "ahhh hell know, I wanna be pissed - how can I be pissed and pray at the same time"? So I take off my hat suck it up and pray - ok great now that's done with I can go back at being mad.
So I get in the car and call my dad (whom I am pretty close with) "dad we got killed in softball, you wont believe what they did after the game"? They had a team prayer, man I just wanted to be pissed - but I can't be pissed and pray that doesn't make sense...
You know what my dad said - well that sounds like the type of league you ought to be in, that's probably going to be healthy for you... You'll get over it.
Yeah I got over it - but that's not the point! lol No all kidding aside it's a fun game I enjoy it. I like to pretend that I have a chance of being on Top 10 plays every night - I will even make the Sports Center sound effect... I'm a kid still I know.
LOL! Yeah my team that I play on is not very good - I guess what I was saying was their are a few solid players and a few solid teams. Not really any top to bottom GOOD teams I guess you are right about that. Just a little more serious than my co-ed league that I play in.
It kind of hurts some of those better teams that the field is so small though. You are allowed 1 HR per inning there. We played a 3 inning game there where 5 of the "outs" we made left the yard because after the 1st homer of the inning is hit then the rest of the home runs that inning are automatic outs.
Kind of hurts? The fence is 195!
Outfielders STAND farther back than that while playing on a real field. - SERIOUSLY, not an exaggeration!
We USED to play 1 game a year on such short fences... the "Snow Ball Tourney". It's just CRAZY to play men's slow pitch softball on fields like that.
