My understanding is that Indiana State is going to be getting a new basektball floor next season. That's right they are going to waste money on a new baseketball floor. Now I don't know how much this will cost, but it's pretty much a done deal. They are going to move the old foor into the areana (the South wing of the current Rec Center). Then they will be getting a new floor in the Hulman Center. I guess when they caught wind of Jake Kelly comming they thought he better have a new floor to play on. Kidding.

But seriously don't I understand why they are doing this...

Costs

My guess is that the costs for three basketball floors that will go into the Rec Center and the price of a new floor are somewhat close. Although the floor from the Hulman Center won't completely cover the Rec Center basketball area, it will be close.

But to really answer your question, I'm not sure.

I will say this..... They need a new floor in the arena. Therefore, maybe that was one of the drivers?????

I played at Hulman Center a few times and I don't recall any dead-spots.

Is there more money in the athletic department than we all think?

The floor in the Hulman Center was new this year - the money was already spent. The "plan" now is to move the old floor into the West court of the South arena to make a more permanent location for men's and women's basketball to practice.
So - they already were using the new floor this season. They currently have two floors - the one that was used this year (the new one) and the previous one (that is being discussed going to the west court of the south gym in the arena).

That makes a whole lot of sense... Stupid. I wonder how much it costs for a new basketball floor?

This administration is silly as shit...

The issue with creating a more permanent practice facility in the south gym of the arena for men's and women's basketball is that it will displace that space as a practice facility for three other sports that currently have to use the worn out surface - volleyball, baseball, and softball. Volleyball might still be OK - using the center court only, but baseball and softball will no longer be allowed to use the entire three court space they once had for indoor practice. Currently, baseballs and softballs are banned from being used in the north gym, so if that policy doesn't change, this genuis idea could really hurt those two sports who are already hamstrung by poor facilities and climate when they are trying to get ready for their seasons.

Am I correct that the new baseball facility will have a indoor hitting area to accomadate these needs ?

Yeah my whole beef falls under a sport known to man as "indoor track". Unlike baseball and softball - track actually has an entire NCAA indoor season dedicated to it. Perhaps it would be nice to give the track teams at Indiana State a indoor facility to train on and host meets.

But instead we are going to buy yet another basketball floor. Allocate your resources people! I am sure you all get tired of my track and field arguments, but let's get serious here. We spend countless dollars on junk. Just for the hell of it. Not to mention they need to go ahead and make an announcement about this to the public instead of trying to keep it all hush hush...

Don't forget that in RP's facilities plan is a "fieldhouse" indoor athletic facility, which I believe will have first class accomodations for track and field. If you want to talk "dysfunctional," remember the athletic department before RP got here...

This will also impact track, since my guess is baseball and softball will be displaced from the south gym of the arena to the north gym of the arena - the current space that is used solely by track (I mean solely in terms of athletic teams). So, while the facility is awful - right now it is theirs to use at the times they want. Now, they will have to share it with two other sports (baseball and softball will have "individual" work-outs in the late fall months and then team practices begin in January for softball and Feb. 1 for baseball).
