Sycamores win their opener 4-3 over Creighton! Creighton is the clear-cut favorite to win the MVC this year after going 43-17 last season. Today, they threw their ace pitcher - Jr. Tara Oltman. Oltman has already won the MVC Pitcher of the Year award twice - in both her Frosh. and Soph. years. Sycamores went with McCurdy and Armour in the circle. ISU had a 4-1 lead in the 7th with 2 outs and committed two errors to let the Jays get it to 4-3, but they hold on to win!! Each team finishes with 6 hits. Sycamores get hits from Simpson, Fakes, Boyer, Armour, Robinson, and Markowski.
Take on Detroit next at 2pm.

looks like ISU won a couple 1 run games today in Texas, off to a good start, Syc'em, how's it looking for Wood so far? Will she pitch as much as she has in the past?

Too bad the CU win doesn't count for MVC play too. They must have been mad as they won the 2nd game 8-0 over Detroit.
 
You forgot to give the score in their 2nd game? Did you used to be a radio announcer? 6-5 over Detroit after again allowing 2 runs in Detroit's last at bat. I know, it's early, but don't want to make a habit of that.

Not sure about how Wood will be used - she went 4 innings in relief today - getting the win vs. Detroit and struck out 5, but did give up 2 runs in the 7th.

Looking at scores, we used all 19 players on our roster today - so it looks like Coldren is trying to find the right combination. Even with that, we went 2-0. Nine different Sycamores had hits, and we scored 10 runs in two games with Simpson only going 2-8 with 4 K's.

Creighton is a legitimate regional threat - and was receiving votes in the current polls without even playing a game yet this season. We managed 4 earned runs off of Oltman, and the CU release says she had only given up more than 2 earned runs in a start twice in her career - or something along those lines. That is a solid win.

Hopefully, they can keep it up tomorrow against the host Islanders.
 
Sycamores drop to 2-1 after blowing two late leads against Texas A&M - Corpus Christi today. It was TAMUCC's 10th game of the season to our third, but Sycs commit 5 errors and strand 11 base runners . Game was tied 2-2 going into the 7th, and ISU put 3 runs on the board only to allow 3 runs in the bottom of the inning. Using International Tie-breaker in the 8th (place a runner on 2nd base to begin the inning), the Sycs get 2 runs in the top of the 8th and leave the bases loaded. ISU gets two outs in the bottom of the 8th and still have a 7-5 lead when the wheels fall off. A single, two errors, and another single later, ISU falls 8-7.
On the bright side, Wood has 11 Ks in 7 2/3 innings. Armour takes the loss in relief of Wood - unable to get the final out. Sycamores have 7 hits in the game - Armour, Simpson, and Garringer each with two and Boyer with one.
Tomorrow, ISU takes on North Texas (2-1) and Detroit (0-3) to finish out the tourney.
 
I saw that SycEm, I walked away at 5-2 thinking it was over then saw all the errors, unreal, they had it won. They need to bounce back and win 2 on Sunday now. Disappointing loss and hopefully the girls are mad and will play better ball Sunday.

ISU plays another 1-run contest, dropping a 2-1 decision to North Texas. Sycamores strand 10 runners and hit into two double plays. Seven hits for ISU - Simpson with 3, Armour, Markowski, Kestner, and Robinson each with 1.
ISU strands runners at 2nd and 3rd in the bottom of the 7th, with the last out coming with a strike out looking on a 3-2 count.
ISU takes on Detroit next.
 
Sycamores move to 3-2 with a 3-1 win over Detroit in their last game in Corpus Christi. Not sure of stats, as the LiveStats stayed frozen going into the top of the 5th, but the ISU site now has us down as 3-1 winners.
I think every player on the roster started at least one game this weekend. Four pitchers were used - and 15 position players all moved around to get starts.
I would have guessed we would go 3-2, but not the way we did it. I figured we would most likely lose to Creighton and split the games with TAMU-CC and North Texas while sweeping the two with Detroit. Ended up losing two one-run games that it looks like we could have won over TAMU-CC and North Texas.
Sycamores are off next weekend before going to Eastern Kentucky the following weekend.

As always, it looks like it will be a brutal year in the MVC.
Pre-season #10 UNI is 7-2 with a win over Arkansas 7-0. Only losses are to Nebraska and Minnesota.
Pre-season #9 Bradley is 6-3 with a win over #25 Kansas 2-0.
Pre-season #8 Indiana State is 3-2 with a win over pre-season #1 Creighton and their ace pitcher.
Pre-season #7 Evansville is 2-2 with 2 run rule wins over Virginia Tech - who was in the World Series last year.
Pre-season #5 Wichita State has a win over Oregon and has scored 46 runs in 8 games.
Pre-season #4 Drake is 4-1 with wins over Arkansas and Minnesota
Pre-season #3 Southern Illinois is now ranked in the national polls at 8-0. They have a win over nationally ranked Long Beach State along with a win over Oregon State. They have allowed a total of 6 runs in 8 games played.
