Softball opened conference play splitting a DH in Springfield with Missouri State. MSU came into the series with a record of 10-3. Sycamores win Game 1 by a score of 1-0. Sr. Darcy Wood outduels another one of the best pitchers in the league - Bear Sr. Melissa Porche. Wood allows 4 hits in the complete game shut-out. Sycamores manage 6 hits off Porche. Porche came in leading the league in ERA at .92 and was second in opponents' batting average at .189. Jr. Meredith Simpson had the RBI for the Sycamores. ISU drops game 2 by a score of 2-1. Sophomore Meagan McCurdy is tough luck loser in the circle for Sycamores - as she allows only 2 hits and 1 earned run in the loss. Sycamores outhit the Bears 6-2 in the game, but the Bears manage to win 2-1. Both teams now 1-1 in MVC play. ISU is 8-11 overall, MSU is 11-4 overall. Game 3 scheduled for 12pm Central time in Springfield.
