Dakich was talking to him about Andrew Smith and how he is the only player in this NCAA tournament with 2 championship game appearances and asked him about how that makes him relish top flight opponents. Stevens said he thinks that was developed and went on to mention Kam Woods.
The crux of his comments were that when players get their first action that they're looking for validation that they can play at that level. Said that once they get that validation then they can really take off. With so many first time starters, I think that can be applied to our guys in some capacity and it makes some sense. I also think that is why our conditioning was a big issue. Maybe quite a few of our guys didn't know HOW to be a starter at the MVC level. Hopefully that also means they will take this years experience and build off of it next year.
