Ticket prices for pro sports are just ridiculous especially when you have a family. Tickets can be as high as $40 to sit in the upper deck. Sorry, no thanks... at that point, I'd rather sit at home and watch it in HD because I'll get a better view. There just isn't any value in attending pro sports games to me.

The Pacers have done a nice job of offering ticket specials. I've seen a few Marsh Family Nights. Tickets are as low as $13 (maybe a bit lower even) and with that ticket you get a hot dog, drink, and t-shirt.

I agree, however, they've begun to price themselves out of the market. Just interesting the quotes and rationale making the case that attendance should be better than it is...sounds just like what comes from many ISU fans...

We often think we are the only ones with attendance issues, myself included, when that's simply not the case. It's hard work bringing fans back after they get used to losing and expect the bottom to fall out after a good start.

Yeah, we've done the Marsh family night thing before. Even then, you're at $80-100 after taxes, convenience fees and parking and you're sitting in the top 3-4 rows of the stadium in a particular corner -- it's a bad view.

It's an issue with all sporting events save for a few big schools or area where there isn't much going on. This is why if we ever replace Hulman Center, I hope they go the Gonzaga route and go smaller.

Nowadays, the NBA markets the superstars...not the teams. Fans are interested in seeing individual players, and it's not as much about the team any longer. The Pacers are winning because they are playing as a team, but they don't have any one superstar attraction. The Pacers sell well when the Lakers, Heat, Knicks, et al come to town...not because those teams win but because they bring Kobe, LeBron, and Carmelo to town.

Price is one thing and the availabiliyt of quality TV broadcasts, but if the NBA wants people to start showing up to see teams like Indiana and other small-market teams...they need to start putting more emphasis on marketing the teams and less on marketing the superstars.

There's a reason why the Pacers only have 2-3 nationally-televised games this year.

We went to the Charlotte game. It was like the second game of the year. They had tickets for $1and It still cost me around $50 for concessions, to park and whatever else.

Why do people complain so much about Hulman Center? It is a great facility. All the seats are good with the exception of the few upper baseline seats where the shot clock above the backboard blocks the view. A few years of winning hopefully will change the perception of ISU basketball and we can have good crowds on a more consistent basis. I don't see the University replacing a perfectly good structure. Well maybe I'm wrong. They are planning to tear down statesman towers.

I doubt that a replacement will occur any time in the next several decades. The new campus Master Plan calls for a major renovation of Hulman Center, which I think will end up with a new facade (brick) and a smaller seating capacity, but with suites/boxes.

You think those buildings are "perfectly good"???? My office was over there for a couple months last year....horribly inefficient all around. 2 fire calls because of the elevators in the 4 months I was there. They were old dorms! They would not be good dorms again either...

I hope that includes space for a permanent exhibit of Sycamore sports memorabilia including the items sent to ISU by the Wooden family.

Shows my age. They were new when I was there. I had a few friends stay there--seemed nice at the time, but by '68 there were signs of problems if I remember correctly. Over all I'm glad I lived in Sandison.

Sandison has been renovated, and it turned out well...

They were not old dorms, they were no longer used dorms. Sandison is an old dorm.

Anyway, back to my question. What exactly is wrong with Hulman Center. Most of the seats are good, the concourse is large, the restrooms are large. Put the court level baseline seats back in, pack the place out and lets have some fun and win some ball games.

Upgrade concession stands, recover orange/yellow seats, add curtains to drop into the upper level to hide top several rows when seats aren't sold and Hulman Center is good to go.

I would add in lighting and sound upgrades. It is a primarily a basketball arena. Let the lighting and sound make it a little bit special.

I remember in the late 70's going upstairs into the dorms they are about to tear down. Some of the floors hadn't been converted to offices and they looked like the students just had left, even though it had been nearly 10 years. There was some definitely 60's style paint jobs in the rooms. It could have been preserved as an authentic 1960's museum, or maybe as a set for the 70's show.

They WERE old dorm rooms, they still had the mirrors and bookshelves in them. They were/are used as offices and classrooms for School of Business and School of Education - and they are horribly inefficient, breaking down and not wired for modern electricity. We would constantly throw circuits while we were trying to work and stay warm over there.

ISU is not imploding "perfectly good buildings".

Sandison is an old dorm room that was "farily recently" remodeled.

Sandison has been remodeled twice that I know of - once in the 80's to accomodate fraternities that didn't have off campus housing, and then recently. It was very nice back in the late 80's...
