He died of an enlarged heart, according to the coroner. He also said that the head injury played no part in his death.

I think all this falls back on the university for not giving proper physicals before the season.

As a comparison, Gaines Adams, a D-lineman for the Chicago Bears died today of basically the same condition--this is someone that has probably been through a ridiculous number of physicals, but the condition never presented itself.

If I am not mistaken, the only way that this condition can be diagnosed is with a heart scan. These are becoming more readily available now, but, still not very prominent apparently.
