Not much (i.e., any) news or posts on the football team. Is anyone planning on going to the spring game? Kind of a wierd time for the game, on Friday late afternoon. No clear cut choice yet at the QB position. Hopefully that will shake out in the fall. It seems like all of the other MVFC schools have routine items on their web sites about the spring practices and players--there have been none for ISU. Hopefully this lack of interest doesn't carry over to the fall season--I think this team has a reasonable shot to return to the playoffs if they can stay healthy.

Won't be able to attend the spring game, but we've got a couple foursomes playing in the outing on Saturday. Maybe get a chance to see you there. I will make sure to see as many Sycamore footballers as I can. I'm going to make sure to find that Sewall kid so I can shake his hand, pat him on the back, wish him good luck for this season and get his autograph, so I can prove I knew him when, after he's been starting for the Bears at strong safety for several years. I agree, could be another great year if everybody stays healthy.

For whoever is interested, still time to get signed up for the golf outing. Went last year, a great time was had by all.

I hope to be at the game Friday. I found out that i cant attend the golf outing due to my daughters having a dance recital right in the middle of both sessions. In the past it has been a good time so i recommend anyone that likes to go to go.

Several injuries.
One or perhaps two running backs with knee injuries.
Quarterback derby is unlikely to be settled even after the spring game.
Defense appears to be way ahead of the offense based on what I have observed.

Watched IU scrimmage and walk on Ricky Brookins led all backs in rushing, both yards per carry and total yards. Shame our local kids are not thought of more highly at ISU.

Was Brookins not recruited by ISU? Did he have any interest in ISU? Seems to me like we've showed a lot of interest (at least over the last 8 years since I've been watching) in the local kids, and many have played big roles. Some obviously have no interest in coming to ISU. Spring games are usually not the best barometer, as many established starters typically make a token appearance if at all. Our defense should be ahead of the offense with 10 returning starters. This needs to be a strength of the team this season. Hopefully no serious injuries with the RBs, particularly the top two returning ones.

I have been able to watch practice 3 or 4 times this spring. Last Friday was a beautiful day to be at the stadium. I thought the offense looked quite a bit better than they did a couple of weeks ago. I will be at the spring game. It's been on my calendar for a while. What I don't know is the time of day. Can someone help me out with that information?

Brookins had no interest in ISU

I agree not much being talked about or reported. Many other schools are promoting there spring much more aggressively and some have even built a community aspect around the spring game. They are having games for the kids, food and just generally trying to make a family event out it. We speak many times about the lack of community support for the team, but what is the program doing to attract them. The spring game would be a prime example. I have seen very little on the website, at a minimum they should have a weekly interview with Coach Sanford. There is a lot to be optimistic about this year! We have momentum going into the season and at the very least higher expectations than what we had at this time last year. The marketing and communications department needs to be on top of this better. I have read some posts over the past few weeks about lack of donations to the program from Alumni. A part of this might be they are not seeing anything being reported or being reminded about what is going on. Other teams send regular emails (even in the off season) specifically promoting the football team along with the local media and website. I know funds are tight and hiring more promotion people probably is not in the budget. Unfortunately, it becomes the chicken or the egg! Maybe an Alum would be will to fund a "Internship" for one of ISU's marketing majors to preform some of these duties??

We do have a College of Business, in which there is a marketing major. I've never understood why the athletic department and the COB don't work together to make this an "experiential learning" possibility. And it would be free. Hmmm...

Several years ago, the School of Business, marketed Alvin Reynolds for the Heisman trophy, I believe it was 1975, Archie Griffith of OSU won, they were able to promote Alvin into 3rd. place, I believe. It was sooooooooooo long ago I have forgotten, Tom James could give all the details.......in my lifetime, most winners were the result of the school publicity machine, not necessarily the athletic ability of the candidates. Hard to believe an ISU football player finished so high.

Our Pal Al, was the campaign name and slogan, I believe

Typical

Unfortunately, the lack of promo for the spring football is the way things go at ISU. There are spurts of really well done stuff done to promote various teams/events/games at ISU -- good videos, nice posts on the website, promos for important games, etc. We've seen some good things over the past 3 -- 5 years but then time passes and we get almost nothing.
Some really well done videos for the football team at times, nice intros to recruits, etc. The video they did for the basketball player intros this year was the best I've seen at ISU. They used it at the start of the coach's show on TV and then posted that show on GoSyc for a couple of weeks ......................then .............nothing ? ? ? Where did it go ? ? ?

You'll notice the same thing with almost every aspect of ISU ------ a great alumni magazine will come out and then die out after a few issues. Some dept at ISU will begin something to promote it and do some good PR............then it just dies away.

Nothing ever gets substained over the long haul. Its like some individual gets all fired up, but soon loses interest.

And so it goes .........................

:frown:

Todd Golden's preview of the spring game. Big question I have is he doesn't really mention the new kicker we've got coming in, even though he mentions Heidorn and says the kicking game is settled. Wonder if that's because the new kicker isn't coming until summer?

We need some linemen to transfer here...

Waiting for him to be on campus, I believe, on Twitter he is excited to come

Would those of you who made it to the game be kind enough to provide us with a report when you get time? Would be very much appreciated.
