"The Indiana State pep band really does a wonderful job of keeping the energy level high, playing a number of exciting songs. Most gratifying about this is the absence of music from the PA system. Not that there isn’t a place for music from the speaker system, but college basketball just sounds better surrounded by trumpets and trombones than it does through a blaring speaker system."

WOO!!! Go basketball band!

I thought the PA announcer said it was the Northview band. Really doesn't matter who they were. They were full of life and added to the game.

Still warm enough on Friday but not sauna-like as was the previous game.

There have been a couple HS groups who've come in during the college kids' break. And you're exactly right about adding to the game.

Over the break there have been:

TH North Patriots
Northview Marching Knights
ISU Alumni and Volunteer band

I've seen our own "DK" leading the groups some of the nights also!

Great ideas to get the HS Bands involved during break. Everyone likes to hear the band more than recorded material... and it gets the local High Schools involved in ISU... and brings their parents to to the game. It's a win/win for everyone.

That was indeed the case the other night, I don't believe that the review of the HC was done after the game the other night. This review could have been done last season for all I know, I just happened to come across it last night? I don't expect that they covered the game on Friday night (when Northview Band was at the game) and had the review finished by Sunday night... So just to add some clarification.

i think it is a fair assessment. it appears to have more positives than negatives which is a good thing! All in all, I think the appraisal of the HC hits the nail on the head. I am not a fan of 7th and Elm, but that is okay...for my money there are many, many other locations to eat, but you can't really go wrong with 7th and Elm...

Agree with this, even though I have a lunch meeting at the Elm today, it's a good place to grab a bite to eat (no smoking) just not the best. I'd much rather hit up Charlies, Wies Pies Pizza or Copper Bar pre-game, but that's just me. It doesn't matter because hopefully come Thursday the city council will vote to make all of Terre Haute smoke free! That would be a HUGE step for Terre Haute!

I'll take the Bally pre-game any day. Large variety on the menu, smoke free, good drink specials, short walk to the Hulman Center, and they have always been big sponsors of Indiana State basketball.

Good article !! and loved the band comments. Horns and drums rather than the kid with the hearing problem at the loud switch who should be reined in. Our pep band is a great asset, and should be the main attraction during breaks. Another improvement would be to give the guy that shouts "and it's a Threeeeee by Tommmmm Smitttthhhh !!" some new way to celebrate a good shot. Bt the way it has got to be the same guy in all conferences from pro to highschool, cause they all sounds exactly the same, or is it just me ?
Thoughts ...

Does anyone do the Terminal, I used to like that place for before games.

That and Sonka Irish Pub.

The Sonka Irish Pub and Mogger's probably are my two favorite pre- or post-game stops, just for the on-tap beer selection alone. (My one complaint about the Bally is that you can't get a decent beer on tap. But I do really like Pizza King strombolis.) I usually stop at Mogger's pregame for an Italian Beef sandwich and a quality pint, then I'll hit Sonka on the way out of town.

I used to love Moggers but its had to many health violations for me.

The Term is out IMO, it aint even an option for me and my group of friends. It's kinda a Terre Haute North grad hangout on the weekends, it's very odd... lol

Sonka has a great menu, I haven't eatin at Sonka in a month or two I need to go this weekend for sure. Maybe Sunday before the game!

Bally is good also, my parents go to Bally all the time before/after games. It's a good spot!

Thanks for the suggestions. I am ALWAYS in a fickle over where to have a beer and some food before and after a game. Know any good places for a pizza? :-)

Seriously, that stadium site is fascinating. Their "review" of HC was right on. I went a couple of steps further and checked out their comments on the Indy venues and they were also very true to form as well. Lucas Oil got about as high a ranking as it could get, and Conseco was way up there too. Nice to see a non-biased opinion on what I have always known are world-class venues in the sports world.

Good review; they did add a year to Coach Wooden's STATE tenure; 3 seasons vs. the actual (2 seasons)
