syd....
i think that you could safely say that....lol.....
the plan to do away with football...courtesy of former isu athletic administrators.....
1. cut the recruiting budget
2. cut the budget for salaries for coaches
3. limit where your coaches can recruit
4. limit the number of players that your coaches can recruit
5. hire head coach who had been fired from his previous job as an assistant
6. oh...and one more thing.....make football the whipping boy when it comes to the rest of the athletic department....blame football for all the problems and woes in the athletic department....
women's basketball isn't winning?....it's football's fault....men's basketball struggling????...it's football's fault.....not enough women's sports???...yeah, its because of football....have to cut sports????....oh yeah, it's football's fault....
the fallacy out there is that gymnastics and wrestling were cut because of football. it was the big lie. because now you see. with football budgets being cut, the money from those other sports obviously wasn't going to football. if those sports were cut because of football, why did the recruiting budget go from $58,000 to $13,000????.....
i remember listening to donna lopiano talk once at a national sports information convention when i worked at isu....she was the women's athletic director at texas at the time....and went on to become the head of the national women's sports association...
she talked about the schools that blamed all their athletic department problems on football, or other men's sports for that matter....she said that it was more a case of mismanagement by the heads of the respective athletic departments and that she wasn't in favor of cutting football programs.....or anything else.....
she said that living up to Title IX standards and having competitive football programs were not mutually exclusive things....that women's sports initiatives and football could live together....
imagine that....lol....
oh...one more thing...had a phone call thursday for a former isu player and coach who is on the isu alumni board now.....he told me that in talking to people on the board, the biggest supporters for the football program came from the women members.....he said he was pleasantly surprised by that....he said that they were enthusiastically in favor of football.....
