i agree....

its high time that the truth about what happened in the athletic department over the last 10 years is finally getting out...its been one of the worst kept secrets at isu....how the whole football situation was mishandled over the years....

i felt like someone screaming out in the wilderness...and wondering if anybody actually heard me....lol....i have been making these complaints for years......

Tom, you are right........... I don't know why nobody every acknowledged where the problem started and how long it had been going on...... The good thing is that all of the individuals that contributed to the problem over the years are gone..... They have been replaced by VERY supportive people..... I hate to keep saying it, but it takes some time. PERIOD........

It seems to me like the administration was trying to phase football out for years and years.... Were they trying to slowing turn it in to something bad and then drop it without anybody noticing??? It seems that way..... Thank God that didn't work!!!!!

I like the article...its helps support what many have said for years the poor admin. decisions caused all this...

syd....

i think that you could safely say that....lol.....

the plan to do away with football...courtesy of former isu athletic administrators.....

1. cut the recruiting budget

2. cut the budget for salaries for coaches

3. limit where your coaches can recruit

4. limit the number of players that your coaches can recruit

5. hire head coach who had been fired from his previous job as an assistant

6. oh...and one more thing.....make football the whipping boy when it comes to the rest of the athletic department....blame football for all the problems and woes in the athletic department....

women's basketball isn't winning?....it's football's fault....men's basketball struggling????...it's football's fault.....not enough women's sports???...yeah, its because of football....have to cut sports????....oh yeah, it's football's fault....

the fallacy out there is that gymnastics and wrestling were cut because of football. it was the big lie. because now you see. with football budgets being cut, the money from those other sports obviously wasn't going to football. if those sports were cut because of football, why did the recruiting budget go from $58,000 to $13,000????.....

i remember listening to donna lopiano talk once at a national sports information convention when i worked at isu....she was the women's athletic director at texas at the time....and went on to become the head of the national women's sports association...

she talked about the schools that blamed all their athletic department problems on football, or other men's sports for that matter....she said that it was more a case of mismanagement by the heads of the respective athletic departments and that she wasn't in favor of cutting football programs.....or anything else.....

she said that living up to Title IX standards and having competitive football programs were not mutually exclusive things....that women's sports initiatives and football could live together....

imagine that....lol....

oh...one more thing...had a phone call thursday for a former isu player and coach who is on the isu alumni board now.....he told me that in talking to people on the board, the biggest supporters for the football program came from the women members.....he said he was pleasantly surprised by that....he said that they were enthusiastically in favor of football.....

It's very simple...

Football is an integral part of the college experience. Period. That's one of the LEADING reasons RP took this job; that's why Old Dominion REINSTITUTED football after 70 YEARS! (and are 3-0); it's why Georgia State is starting a team (with Bill Curry as coach and UTSA (texas-san antonio, w/ LARRY FREAKING COKER as the inaugaral head coach, why Lamar is reinstituting their program, etc, etc.

Donna Lopiano is pretty sane; have read many of her columns on Title *IX, football, etc

reinstituted their...

program in 1983 and they currently play NCAA Div II ball. I was only talking about Div 1- FBS (nee' Div 1-AA) teams.

And is why Wichita State has never brought their FB program back and enjoyed all the successes they have had over the years?

The numbers are rough but...

I believe there are (for 2009-10):

131 Schools playing Div 1 - FBS Football
125 Schools playing Div 1 - FCS Football
97 Schools playing NO Div 1 football

So, that's, what, 353 schools currently in Div 1; CLEARLY Football is desired at the Div 1 level; how many schools have moved up divisions (II to I and I-AA to I-A) in recent memory?

I'm beginning to lose count because there ARE that many! Come next season when the 4 newcomers join, there'll be 129 in Div I - FCS and 93 non-football schools.

So, in the past 20 years, 12 schools will have started football from scratch (UTSA) or reinstituted it (Old Dominion), hmmm I wasn't a math major but that's one about every other year...
