Folks, this is one of just NINE given out in Division I baseball. Click on the link at the top of the story for all of the winners from Division I and from all divisions nationwide.

Quite an honor that is WELL deserved!

Congratulations, Ryan!!

Hope you're not in Spokane too long -- be great to see you in Bakersfield or Frisco by September!

Ya know, on several occasions, Coach Heller said Straus was one of the best in the nation in patrolling the outfield...and he was RIGHT!

What a great honor for a Sycamore baseball player. Is he the first player from ISU to win a gold glove in college?

Don't know about Gold Glove...but here's the scoop on All Americans from Wikipedia's article on Indiana State Sycamores Baseball:

All-Americans (12)
Year Player Organization
1963 Harlan Lautenschlager, IF NAIA
1985 John Howes, P Baseball America
1986 Paul Frye, OF Collegiate Baseball
1989 Mitch Hannahs, 2B ABCA, Baseball America
1990 Chad McDonald, 3B ABCA, Collegiate Baseball

No, apparently it has been 15 years though since the last ISU player won that honor. Here's the scoop from Wikipedia's article on Indiana State Sycamores Baseball:

Does this Rawlings Gold Glove equate to 'All-American' status?

You're right...gold glove and All-American are two different types of awards!

I didn't know if Rawlings does an All-American list vs. a Gold Glove list

What are Strausborger's odds of being named All-American by one of the various polls/voting associations?

The ABCA is the one that votes on the Gold Glove, All-Region and All-American teams. Straus was nominated for All-Region and just missed out on a place on the second team. Coach Heller is also the Midwest Region representative for the ABCA.

Little Old Brazil

is the home to two on that list: John Howes and Chad McDonald. Two seasons back, fellow Brazilian and ISU grad Brady Shoemaker was named first team ACADEMIC All American.
