On another thread, we talked about the Athletic Band and expressed some concerns about the band's situation the past few years.
I recently sent an e-mail to our new director and thought I'd share his response with you.
I feel it is very encouraging in that it is finally a positive response from someone who took the time to listen.
Therefore, I felt like it deserved its own thread:
"Thank you for your e-mail. It is always good to hear from ISU alumni, and I appreciate that you have reached out to share your opinions about the Sycamore Marching Band and the School of Music.
I am looking forward to hearing the band at today's game. The band will be in brand-new uniforms and should look and sound really good today. Beyond the quality of the band, the size has increased to 120 members. Although it is not the size when you were in the band, it is the largest it has been in several years and is comparable to other schools our size.
With the trend of increasing ISU enrollment (a record was set this year), I think the growth in the band over the last two seasons will continue over the coming years.
I understand that the Sycamore Marching Band is an important representative of the University and especially the School of Music. I will continue to do whatever I can to help the band reflect it past glory! "
