this will be an interesting meet to say the least, I agree with Bradley being the favorites to win both races, for them to lose they'd need to have disastrous races on both sides. They've been running well all year and have a very close pack from #1 thru #5 runners

on the men's side for ISU to get 2nd we're gonna need whoever is our #5 runner to have the race of his life, We're strong at 1, 2, and 3, #4 has gotten better as the year has gone along, but our 5th has just been too far back at the races we've run so far. So we really need those guys at 5-6-7 to step up and do well Saturday. Otherwise ISU could finish as low as 6th, and we don't want that.

Of course John Mascari will be trying for his 4th straight MVC title, which I don't think has ever been done, he will have company up front as there are some very good runners in the conference who will try to stay with him Saturday.

It's safe to say Drake, UNI, and UE will fight it out for the bottom 3, they just have no depth at all.

For our women, they've gotten better with each race, picking them 5th is about right at this point, but if they can get their 2-5 runners closer to Taylor Austin at #1 then it's not out of the question they could finish top 3. I know they will be trying for the win, but they might just be a year away from being serious contenders to place first. They're young and hungry to do well so hopefully they run fast Saturday and get in that top 3.

60% chance of rain after 8am for the meet Saturday, so not sure if good or bad for us? It'll probably ran on the Indiana HS state meet Saturday as well, we host the meet again at LaVern Gibson at 1pm.

reviewing the meet, for the men, our top 3 did exactly as expected, Mascari wins his 4th title, Timlin ran great, gets 9th, all MVC, and Levi Taylor placed 17th.

Our #4 today was freshman Akis Medrano, who ran a HUGE PR today, so he stepped up big time! He was 30th place, our 5th and 6th men were 36th and 37th in 25:34, 25:35. (Swem and freshman Kritzer) BIG PR for Kritzer as well, so those guys ran as well or better than expected.

We needed some teams to have off days today, i.e., Bradley, WSU, ILS, but those 3 teams ran great today and earned their spots. ILS was the big surprise, they've stunk now for quite some time so for them to get 2nd was a major upset. WSU ran well also, despite not having a single runner in the top 10.

Bradley dominated, I think after their disappointing run in 2014 they were determined not to do that again. They dominated the entire race to earn the win, kudos to them.

for the women, outstanding!! races from the freshman Moore and sophomore Austin! Getting 9th and 10th for all MVC! 17:23, and 17:29, great races!

Neeley (the IU transfer) stepped up for the 3rd spot getting 20th in 17:46, a season best!

Megan Doty was our 4th in 18:00, 28th place, a season best I think

our 5th gal was Taylor Rogers in 18:26, 40th place.

The gals were 5th, only 5 points from 4th (Loyola) and 13 from 3rd.

I had said if either team (men or women) placed in the top 3 we'd be happy. Both were very close, so we should not be disappointed too much. I know the teams are probably disappointed they didn't place higher, but more good times are ahead for ISU Cross Country.

Bradley's women dominated (as expected) for the win and the Busch twins went 1st, 3rd, so they ran very well.

Mascari Makes History With Record Fourth MVC Cross Country Championship

Indiana State senior John Mascari raced his way into the record books as he became the first ever student-athlete to record a fourth Missouri Valley Conference Cross Country Championship with his win on Saturday morning at the Angel Mounds Cross Country Course, hosted by the University of Evansville.

We lose Mascari, but from what I understand of your reporting, CC, we have some great youngsters running for us, right? Sounds like a bright future for Cross Country!!!

yes, John is the only senior we lose, Timlin and Taylor are back, as is everyone else, but we're gonna need 5 or more guys next year who can break 25:00 for 8k/5miles on a regular basis.

We have good runners, but they really need to make significant progress next year for us to contend for another MVC title. Our gap from our 3rd runner to the 4th thru 7th runners is just too much at this point. We also need to hit a home run with the next recruiting class for distance runners.

just to show you what close pack running can do for a team, today IUPUI (who we have not been able to beat the past couple years) won the summit league meet up here today, sdsu went 1-2-3, IUPUI then went 5-6-7-8-9-10 and won the meet. We need guys who run close together like that

The Indiana state HS meet was today, I am sure there are runners we are recruiting who ran today, I just got done watching the meet, one I hope we get is the Trout kid from Northview, he was 12th today and looked VERY GOOD running in the meet today. We've got to get these local kids.

Two others I'd like to see us get are Christian Noble and Aaron Rush from Mount Vernon. Noble was 4th today, Rush was 19th. Rush is the son of my teammate while I was at ISU, Eric Rush.

The women are sitting very good, we lose noone from the team who ran today, so next year we could see them compete to win the MVC meet.

one last bit of info with Bradley winning the men's race yesterday, that was the first time since 2003 that a team besides either Indiana State or Southern Illinois had won the men's team title at the MVC meet. It's pretty much been a dual meet between us and them for the past 12 years up until yesterday.

Let's get back with the contenders soon. A couple of good recruiting classes Should get us there.
