Sycamore Pride Meet Summary: Saturday, August 29, 2009
@ LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course, Terre Haute, Indiana

Let me start this first meet summary of the season with an apology. This meet summary is about a week late, my bad...

The first meet summary will be a Q & A, since I am running behind already. I will try and make it an actual article from here on out.

My View

It was really cool to see all the new faces running for the Sycamores, this has to be one of the youngest Sycamore teams in many years. In this case young does not mean lack of talent, this is a strong class of freshman and transfers (Lepkowski via Lewis University & Tyler Kent via Vincines University). However it was transfer Andrew Lepkowski (JR) that stole the show. He made a strong move just 1 mile in to the 3.1 mile race and was able to sustain the move, it was an impressive performance. Junior Michael Disher broke away from the pack in attempt to run down Lepkowski, but was unable to do so on this day. This was a promising start to what should be a great season for the Sycamore Men's Cross Country team! I am really looking forward to watching these guys compete this season!

Post Race Interview
sycamorerunner.com: Before we talk about today's race, how was your first week of practice at Indiana State?

Andrew: My first week of practice was exciting for i was not sure what to expect. We have such a strong team this year that when it comes it workouts there is always a pack to train with.

sycamorerunner.com: How is Indiana State's Cross Country program different from Lewis?

Andrew: The largest difference between ISU and Lewis is the team. Like I said the question before the team is the biggest difference between the two teams. The ISU team is so much stronger and well bonded then the team i was part of last year.

sycamorerunner.com: Ok now we can talk about today, you ran very well (15:47) at sycacmore pride, did you have a race strategy? If yes what was it?

Andrew: No I did not have a strategy I just went with the team for the first mile and then ran as a felt from there

sycamorerunner.com: That was really impressive man, nice job. What a way to start your new career here at Indiana State. What were you thoughts about the course? Was it in good shape?

Andrew: It is by far the best course I have ever ran on. I thought the course was in great shape and am looking forward to running on it in the future.

sycamorerunner.com: Yeah I ran in the Alumni race, or should I say jogged in the alumni race! LoL. The Sycamores seem really deep this year, just how deep are you guys?

Andrew: We have a lot a lot of talent on the team this year. We have great packs to run with for workouts and races. Also we have very strong leadership up front and strong captains.

sycamorerunner.com: I agree, Keeney does a heck of a job leading the team. He is a first class division one athlete. Is this the start to the season you were looking for? What do you personally have to do to make sure your season plays out the way you envision it?

Andrew: It is kind of early to really say how my season will unfold. It would be an amazing season for me if our team qualified for nationals in cross country. For me I just have to stay healthy and do all the little things for my season to be a success.

sycamorerunner.com:Thanks for the interview Andrew, good luck next week at Evansville and since that meet is already over, good luck the next week at the Bradley Invitational!
