The Indiana State baseball team dropped their third straight game on Saturday, as the Missouri State Bears clinched the series win with a 5-1 Missouri Valley Conference victory at Hammons Field.
Things are looking shaky!! We made some mental errors, actually scored errors and we can't get our bats going. .229 team batting average is the biggest hurdle right now. ISU is averaging only 3.35 earned runs per game. On the bright side...if we can get average of 4.5 to 5 runs per game, we have it made, based upon our starting pitching. Overall ERA is a very nice 3.13.
Things are shaky indeed... Bright side is they seem to be putting the bat on the ball. They aren't striking out a whole lot more than the other teams. They are hitting the ball hard. They just hit the ball right to them or the other team makes a great play against them. When a kid makes a diving catch on the warning track the only thing you can do is tip your hat to him. Not really sure how to fix the problem other than maybe playing a lot more "small ball" and utilize the team speed and put pressure on the defense. At the beginning of the the season I thought the pitching would be the achilles heel, never thought it would be the bats.
