The Quad

I thought that place had already crumbled to the ground!

I lived there for a couple years during the early 70's...do those damn trains still rumble by and shake the ground? The cracks in the brick walls were so bad back you could see daylight...of course most the time, I was sleeping during those hours!

Do they still have those wrought iron gates that they close @ midnight? I stopped counting the # of dudes that were almost castrated climbing over those.

I 'll never forget Homecoming the year The Carpenters ('72?) were in...my roommate in #175 had a styrofoam cooler full of Bali Hai & Boone's Farm wine. While carrying it up the stairwell, the handle came off and it was like Hoover Dam breaking...smelled soooo sweet, but boy was everyone -issed off because of the loss!

The Quad was where everyone wanted to live then...hard to get a reservation! Enjoy...

Lived there for three years; heard they spent a ton of $$$ on them in the early 90s, mainly on the AC and Heating units; new windows. We had a pretty nice place; far better than any room I saw in the hi-rises -- never understood why State didn't incl. a kitchenette...

The only dudes I knew crawling over were the ones who couldn't squeeze under the gates...and they did a great job at keeping the 'parasites' at bay!!

Didn't know who was worse -- the trains or the soroities w/ their ditties at all hours!

Still virtually the same...gates, trains, bad brick and all. They have dumped some money into it, but not near as much as one would think. They just replaced several (if not all) ac units (over last two summers )and as 4Q mentioned they replaced windows in the late 90s very early 2000's. Now the actual metal staircases are rusting out and they need to be replaced too...salt is a bitch on steel.

I still say it is probably the best place to live on campus, personally. Yes it isn't as nice as Hines or Jones halls with their private baths and AC but, you can't argue with the freedom that LQ provides. And just so you know, no kitchenettes because students living in LQ have a meal plan, it simply wouldn't be economically feasible to allow them to have a kitchen...then the 800 students in LQ would not want to pay for the meal plan...its all about the $$ in that case, plus the cost of fire prevention upgrades alone would be amazing. I understand and would think the same thing, why not put a kitchenette in there, but you simply can't do it for every suite. Now, putting on in the bottom of every suite is a different story and has been tossed around as an idea before...

re...

As I alluded to previously...now you know why those stairwells are rusting out!!!

I loved "The Quad"...before those trees became full grown, you could layout on the "mounds" during the Spring, hide a bottle of chilled Boones Farm & catch the rayz alongside the bikini-clad LQ babes! Ahhh yes...the memories of college!:p

I recall being on the "Meal Option Plan" one semester, but missed the social aspect of "fine dining.":sycamores:

The quads are probably the best place to live on campus in my opinion; that's why I chose to live here this year. It's all air-conditioned and you have a bathroom you only share with 5 people which is quite an upgrade over the towers where you share with 40. And you also get your own individual room so it's private but there's also a living area so it's also good for hanging out. And you don't have RA's and stuff so you can do pretty much whatever you want....

By the way, they still have those gates but I've never seen them move. I would certainly not be happy if they ever closed at midnight on me.
