There have been a lot of bubbling stories over the last couple months talking about athletics spending, subsidies and debt as it is time for schools to handle their annual budgets. At some point, the house of cards is going to come crashing down, especially with athletics spending rising when professors are seeing RIF or salaries cut and students are seeing tuition and student fees continue to increase. Here are a couple interesting ones I've been watching:

Per the article, SIU has a $315 fee PER SEMESTER for athletics. I think I recall a small fee during my time at ISU, but it sure wasn't anything close to that.

EIU's big problem is that they have gone from 11,000 students in fall of 2011 to 7000 this past fall. 4,000 students x $11,000 in tuition. At one point they were talking about dropping 2 sports but they came to the realization that the income lost would be worse than the savings (or at least im told)
