there is a problem with the quincy game....

isu had scheduled a game with quincy college....but i had heard that there was a problem with the deal....something about when quincy can play their first game of the season....isu had wanted to play it the week before the louisville game...quincy backed out...but i heard that isu was still trying to work something out....

Quincy being a Div. II school can start their season a week earlier than ISU by NCAA rule.
Thus, the game had to be cancelled however ISU hoped to re-schedule on our open date of 10 Oct. It was said that Quincy also had that date open & it would be a simple deal to correct. At this point it appears that the change of date is not going to be as easy as originally thought.

Two words......OH NO.....Looking at the Schedule do we really think ISU will be able to pull a victory out. Southeast Missouri State is off the Schedule, that was a game with a team that was equally as bad. Quincy would have been a competitive game, but looks like they are gone. So right now the Sycamores are playing all conf teams, and two non conf. The two non conf games prob wont be very competitive. There is one team in the conf that the Sycamores might be able to pull out a win and thats against Mizz St., and i think the only reason the game was competitive last year was because Mizz had around 5 turnovers. Its not looking good.....I hope the Sycamores can make a mass turn around, but i just dont think they have the talent.....R.I.P ISU Football

R.I.P ISU Football

I was following you and mostly agreeing until you got to that. The football program is rebuilding and I'm still excited about the future, even if it turns out we are still one year away from our first win. The Quincy game though is an absolute must if we can get it, any game for that matter.

surely there is at least ONE team out there that still needs a game on Oct. 10th, aren't there websites where you can look to see which teams need games on certain dates??

And EIU was not that good last season, so I would not pencil that in as a sure loss for ISU this season, esp. since the game is in TH.

I cant imagine ISU still funding thousands of dollars in the program if they don't have one win next year. That will be what four straight zero win seasons. They need one win this upcoming year or I hate to say that the program is a goner.

that's probably why they're remodeling parts of memorial stadium....

and making plans to build an on-campus football stadium.

Hey if your writing off the year already as a zero win season then lets just have 10 games 0-10 looks better than - 0-11 !!!!!
Lets give them another year to see how we improve I feel we may not be winning a bunch of games this year but we will be alot more competitive than in years past and that is improvement

Quincy game may very well still happen. That being said, we should have won 3 or 4 games last year.....

This coming up year, we have a chance to win all of our home games. I saw every game last year.

We SHOULD have won the following..........

SEMO
at Youngstown
Mizzery State

Those three games were Wins that we blew. I'm not kidding you, we were better than those three teams. We did not get beat in these games, we LOST these games. All because of correctable mistakes. Remember, we were loaded with Freshmen.

We competed very well and let a few plays kill us in the following games,

Northern Iowa (yes, I said it. I was there)
at Eastern Illinois
at North Dakota State
South Dakota State

Games we never had a chance in.

at Eastern Michigan
at Northern Illinois
Illinois State
at Southern Illinois

I think I'm forgetting a game, oh well......

The "forgotten" game was at Western Illinois--better left forgotten also. I agree that they should be more competetive, but it is absolutely critical that the offense produce more this year. Minimize the short fields that the opponent routinely saw last year, don't make a habit of 3 and outs, and improve special teams. I'm still wondering what happened to the emphasis on recruiting the horses. We are woefully thin on the lines, more so on offense, and I think we already have a starter lost there. The spring will be interesting--if the defense dominates the offense routinely, maybe some position switches would be in order.

Will the Trees win a game this season? If they continue to struggle; I'd advocate a move to the PFL w/ Drake, Butler, Valpo, etc, etc OR shut the program down entirely and use those resources for the betterment of other teams in the department.

Where would they put an 'on-campus' stadium? Squeeze it into the footprint left when the finally raze the Business and Education buildings (Statesmen Towers)?

I don't think we need to discuss scrapping the program for the time being. The university has made a commitment to the team and I think Miles is getting things in order.

As for the line, Miles said recently that things have flip flopped from a year ago and they now have more linemen than skill players. Maybe he was referring to new recruits.

Just for everyone's knowledge....

if you didn't already know, the football program has struggled the last several years due to the mismanagement of the program by those in charge of the athletic department at the time.

a bad hire for a head coach (lou west), the continued trimming of the recruiting budget in recent years and not taking care of memorial stadium has contributed to the current situation.

luckily, with ron prettyman leading the athletic department now and dr. bradley in charge of the university, positive moves are currently underway to rectify the situation. prettyman and bradley have both seen the carnage that was left by the previous athletic administration and are attempting to correct it.

it's no joke when i say that the football program has been treated like the poor stepsister of the athletic department. no wonder the program has slipped.

some of us want the program to survive and are doing all we can to help in doing that. it's very easy to just say, 'oh, cut the program' and move on. it takes some gumption and fortitude to sit in there, roll up your shirt sleeves and say, 'let's go get this thing turned around.'

we have over 100 former players and coaches who receive an isu football alumni newsletter. we are nearing 80 former players and coaches who have signed up to a facebook group for isu football alumni.

we're for saving the program and seeing it succeed.

I don’t WANT to scrap the program; I want them to be competitive. As an alumnus, I’d rather they be 6-4 in the PFL than 0-11 in the MVFC. I’m all for giving Miles time to build the program and would LOVE to see them have an on-campus football/track stadium.
1) How will it be funded?
2) Who will fund it?
3) How does State raise the $$$ for, what is essentially, a dismal program? Especially in the current economic climate?
4) Are there any multi-millionaire ISU alumni, the type with ‘Mark Cuban’ money?

Winless

I must say, it is a bit tough to follow posts on here sometimes. While I truly agree, we are rebuilding, I think for the program as a whole, we HAVE TO win a few this year. I am not saying they will dump the program, but how can we keep blowing the preverbial sunshine up peoples skirts so to speak and not have some success on the field to back it up. I think the Sycamores will be more competitive, and without looking at the schedule at all, I am going to step out and say they win 2 maybe 3 games this year. If they go winless, and I say this with hope and support in my heart and pray they don't, but if they do, you might have to start looking at a different direction. I have all the faith in the world Coach Miles is going to get this thing turned around in a 5 year period, but two straight winless campaigns will make things pretty hairy around TH. Anyhow, enough of that. I think 2 or 3 wins on our way to a .500 campaign in 2010, playoff contenders/participants in 2011, and playoff participants in 2012 and beyond. Go Trees!

I don't know if there is "Mark Cuban" money among the alumni, but I just wrote my check for athletic department last night and earmarked the money for the football program. If I can afford it I will write another check 6 months from now for the basketball program. I'm sure there are a lot of devoted ISU alum and fans on this board that do the same thing as often as they can. My point is that we can't wait for a financial savior, we all just have to do what we can.

Here is a article from a Student athletes perspective on the scraping of a FB program, remember to all who want to just drop and run from FB there are MANY people it affects, especially their futures! Just my opinion, as I have stated before on this board, even though it was a loss last year in Fargo, I was extremely impressed with the way your players played, some more experience, and depth and they win a couple, Miles had those guys playing the entire game, they never gave up, even when in the second half it became obvious the depth of NDSU was taking over! Don't give up on the kids and coaches yet, it takes more than a couple years to build a program!!:)

my point is and has always been....

most people don't realize how far down the program sunk to under the direction of lou west...the former athletic administration virtually tried to torpedo (yes, I said torpedo!!..lol) the program....

when trent was named head coach, he said it right....when he took over, the program was pretty much akin to a expansion franchise....or in other words it was like a first-year program....the people who had been in charge had allowed the program to slip to where it was when trent took over....

so he has been forced to rebuild....when he took over, they had like five offensive linemen, about the same number of defensive linemen, no tight ends and no fullbacks on the roster...then injuries hit along the offensive and defensive lines....the coaches had to mix and match in order to practice and play games....

last year, there were about 45 players on the spring roster....now the numbers are better, but they are still shorthanded in some spots....in fact, they won't have a full roster until the new freshman class begins practicing this summer...

we must remember that trent's first three recruiting classes will ultimately be the foundation for the rebuilding of the program....he's got two under his belt now....

and we must also remember that the program didn't get bad in just one or two seasons....and it's going to take some time to turn things around....
