Gotta Hav

The Wade Level
I have my office at work decorated with ISU pennants, coffee cups, pictures, posters, etc.....heck, I even have an Indiana State trash can and a UNOPENED commerative 7UP bottle from 1979 that has the season scores on it. Many of you know what I'm talking about.

Everyone at work knows that I only follow ISU sports..and trust me, like a lot of you know, that's a long road to haul...your team spirit on.

So today, after everyone said last night that they would be watching Indiana State, the abuse and mockery started as soon as I turned on my computer and went to my email. Then I heard it at the coffee mess, and then I heard in the hallway.....

I'm tellin' ya, no wonder we're the laughing stock of the state after last nights performance by Lansing, Odum and the rest of the cast of characters. Can you imagine the ribbing that the Scott kid in Fort Wayne, got today?

Prettyman better get ahold of whatever the hell is going on with HIS basketball program, or we may go on another downward spiral that may take us 10 years or more to get out of....if ever.

I can't help but think of our football program. Miles came here to achieve a goal--return ISU football to respectability. It seems he accomplished his goal. We could tell last year that things weren't going as well as many expected. He decided it was time to move on.

Lansing's situation is somewhat like Miles. He came in to fill a position at a late date. He made a respectable program with 4 consecutive post-season appearances (I know 0-4). Lansing may feel in the not too distant future that he has done what he aimed to do and move on.

You and I have the same office bro.. I truly feel your pain. Anytime we look like we flunked the GED I want to hide. I have the same bottle, ISU mat, Baseball Hat with the arrow and Larry Bird autograph hanging. I even have a buck with the TH Trib article on ISU beating IU taped to my wall that I won from a co worker. Although I think Prettyman is the real deal, and should be credited for many wonderful things. I agree the last ten games this year are very hard to swallow.

These are great posts, and all the more reason for ISU athletic teams to leave nothing unturned when they take the field or court while representing Indiana State. While it's just a "game," it's a major part of our lives, past-present & future. No need to dwell on the role of sports in the psychological & physical well-being of Americans, but just saying don't forget the myriad of reasons WHY you're playing with "Indiana State" lettering on your jerseys. It's not just about money.

At least we're relevant this time of year, and when someone asks, "who is your team? How did they finish the season?" You don't have to say we had 10 wins and finished at the bottom of the conference. I want to get over the hump, too, and take another step, but I feel better about a 68-52 loss in the NIT than I do being the MVC bottom feeder in every sport.

Got to think about SycamoreLynch here. Can you imagine, here he is trying to change the culture & win over the student body @ ISU and he's up against these type of performances. I too get it where I'm at from the Hoosier, Cards & Cat fans, but I'm sure not at the scale he does. SycamoreLynch, where ever your are-Keep plugging away & more power to you. Thanks for all you do. GO SYCAMORES!

The flame burned weak and then went out rather quickly in the latter part of last season also. Somebody needs to answer for it?

You know how things are...in a week, everyone will be in a "sycamore backer" state of mind, just recalling the 18-15 season, forgetting that we were once 16-7 and being the "talk of the nation." We've been bred over the years to accept such performance and to follow in the footsteps of the Cubs, as there's always NEXT YEAR.

You’re right. I’ve had enough. We must storm Prettyman’s office and hold him hostage until he agrees to fire Lansing and his staff, and then release every player. After that, we will demand that the university to devote every last resource to inventing cloning technology that will allow us to bring back a younger Larry Bird and any other former ISU standout whose DNA we can get our hands on. That or create a time machine so we can kidnap them and bring them to the future (you know, like the Looney Tunes in Space Jam), whichever is easier for the university. It’s up to them. Then we’ll hand over Prettyman and enjoy the 2013-2014 Indiana State season from a penitentiary. Most of us will be happy to make the Sweet 16, except for you of course.
