(KO) Standing for Aces knock Sycamores out of the Valley race. Huge loss tonight in more than one way, you have to hold serve at home I don't care who you play, now the schedule gets very difficult for the Sycamores and I'd suggest that this team is in trouble. I didn't really want to give my "thoughts" from the game tonight. Not sure that anyone else really cares to read them either. But quite simply, UE wanted this game more than the Sycamores and sometimes thats all it takes. The Sycamores totally quit in the second half and that's something we haven't seen this team do much this year, but when they have boy has it been ugly.

Odum: For whatever reason he looked very much like a freshman point guard tonight, not that anyone else around him played very well. He passed up a few open shots and teams are starting to figure out that he penetrates to kick the ball and defenders are staying at home. He has to drive to score at some point.

Carter: Didn't think he played a very good game at all. He did get on the floor after a couple lose balls and was one of the few guys that I didn't think quit in this game. Teams are starting to defend him and it's made a big difference.

Richard: Played a heck of a ball game, he ended up with 10 rebounds tonight (double, double) but he probably should have had more like 13 or 15 - let a few get away from him. His dunk in the first half was nasty for the and one. Carl has played really well in MVC play and continued that good play tonight.

Walker: Looked lost tonight. His confidence had been pretty high and he was really mixing it up well. He got in some foul trouble again tonight, but when he wasn't in foul trouble he didn't look into the game at all. Missed some bunnies around the rim that he had been finishing on the last few weeks.

JP: Well he finally made a couple shots, good to see him back in the box score. I think he's a liability on defense, but so was the entire team in the second half. JP didn't get much of a look in the second half.

Steve: He has just disappeared these last couple games. He hasn't been able to get the open looks he was getting and when he has had a look it hasn't gone in for him. Lansing looked upset with him early in the second half and he was really never in the game after that.

Lathan: I got nothing... I don't get it - this team flat out played better as a "team" without Kelly and Lathan. It's not to knock these kids at all, it's just the way it is. SSOM is showing restraint here - this is me patting myself on the back for that.

Kelly: He has got to figure out his shot, for whatever reason he can't knock down a 3 to save his life. It would be nice for him to hit a shot from long range. I will say that atleast Colt Ryan didn't beat us tonight, he and AC did a good job on him. But at the same time Ryan was in major foul trouble and he sat the bench the entire second half.

RJ: Not sure why we didn't see much of him in the second half? He played a little bit and missed a 3 - he hit a couple in the second half and I thought he did a nice job when he was in the game. Plus your down 3 at the end of the game, why isn't your best 3 point shooter in the game? I'd have looked for RJ off a high screen and roll if I was Lansing out of that last timeout.

Lansing: Might want to think about giving Koang and Martin a look sometime this year, I don't understand why once Lathan and Kelly have come back why those guys can't get a look? Especially when Walker was in foul trouble and EU went small on us. Make them match up with us. It's simply unacceptable for a team to blow two 17 point leads against Evansville. But at the same time these people on this forum who expected us to just blow EU out should have known better.

Good news is I will get a good parking spot again!

Just got home from the game

Horrible performance by Coach Lansing this evening. The first game in my life I have truly seen a coach lose a game for his team.

Wow, that's a bold statement. What do you think he did wrong specifically? I think he has done a fine job here of late.

Also, SSOM (man, your old screen name was so much easier) do you think the lack of minutes for Koang and Martin has something to do with them being more McKenna's recruits? I don't even know if that's true, but they seemed to play more under McKenna. At some point, if guys are stinking it up, you have to put your bench in just to get their attention, I would think.

I'm not about to lay any loss on one or two guys. Nor I am I going to pretend to have as much b-ball knowledge as most of the posters on the SP message board. But speaking as a layman, let me ask one question:

In all seriousness, what is the reason for Coach Lansing's ongoing infatuation with Kelly and Lathan? (Especially the latter.) Granted, they both have shown flashes (heroically, in one instance), but I struggle to understand why either of them merits as much PT as they get when IM, KD and JP are riding the pines.

I'm not trynig to be sarcastic; I honestly want someone to break it down for me because I just don't get it.

I am just aghast at how much playing time Lathan had in the 2nd half, stats are not up yet, but he had miss after miss after miss after miss and on and on. Put in Martin, Koang, Mahurin, Printy. ANYBODY but Lathan! He's killing any flow ISU has!

ISU did awesome without Lathan (and Kelly) they come back and now ISU mired in a 2 game losing streak with TOUGH games ahead, it does not look good at all

In regards to Lansing, I know this is a disappointing loss, but he's really done well with this team in a transitional year (exceeded expectations), so I don't think it's fair to turn on him too much after one bad game.

I think Sycamore Sam is gonna come back to say Lansing played Lathan way too much in this game, esp. in the 2nd half with the game on the line.

.

I honestly believe he has been out coached in all three confrence losses . Why the hell do you not get Martin , Koang , and to a point Printy more time . Look back in the overtimes against WSU we have these guys sitting on the bench while carter and company are playing exhausted, I think we need to focus one game at a time or this 2 game streak will continue to grow. I understand he wants the best out there but Dewayne had as much chance tonight chucking up those 3s as Walker had making 2 consecutive free throws. ( I know he did it once this year so no need to correct me on this ) .
I dont know why Koang all of a sudden gets zero minutes in a game . Are we looking at another Isiah Martin here a kid with tons of potential and little chance to proove it on the court? JP I thought he did what was expected of him given the time he got to play .

We held Ryan to 2 points and laid an egg the rest of the way . This is not oh we just played a triple OT gane , It comes down to the coaches were out coached in both the Evansville games . A team doesnt just lose consecutive games where it lead by 17 points if they are well coached.

Its my understanding we was getting out rebounded badly, we have Martin, Koang and RJ on the bench playing against a small lineup, as someone else said elsewhere, make them match up against us. IMO, Martin has given great minutes lately and he "DESERVES" a chance just as everyone else has be given, also what's the story with Koang, no minutes in last 2-3 games I believe.

I absolutely do NOT understand Martin's lack of playing time, esp. after his games against Drake and WSU.

I'll just say this...
If Isaiah Martin had done one QUARTER of the crap that Lathan did from 18 seconds to go in the 1st half (he played well up to that point).. I'm would never see the floor again..

Oh, wait....

I think that might be a good observation with Koang - I would hate to think that a coach doesn't play a kid because he's not one of his recruits, but I am sure it happens.

I think you have to ask yourself this question? Is it realistic to go into your bench 9 or 10 deep? Isiah has given us some good minutes this year for sure, so I am not sure why he doesn't get a look. All I can think of is that he doesn't want to reach that deep into his bench. The logic behind that? Well who are you going to take out? Richard (nope), Walker (maybe when he's in foul trouble), RJ (he didn't play much himeslf). So it's easy for us to sit back and go - well why is this guy not playing.... It's clear to me, Jake Kelly and Lathan are back and he's going to win or lose with those guys on the floor.
