Yes! Yes! Yes! Heck of a team effort here tonight, watched the game LIVE at Beef O'Brady's in the Haute and I couldn't be happier with the way these guys battled tonight. They came out of the gates firing and I'm not sure that we ever trailed in this game? For UNI it took a very similar path to our game vs. MSU on Saturday - they just couldn't get over the hump. For the most part we really moved the ball well and because of that we got some good shots. We haven't been the best free throw shooting team in the nation this year, but when they have mattered we have knocked them down. Record wise we are watching the best Sycamore team since 1999-2000 and boy it's been a long time but the Sycamores are back baby! Finish the year 5 and 4 on the road? Who the
picked these guys to finish 7th in the Valley? Here we go:
Odum: Heck of a ball game from the freshman, he really seemed to put his injury behind him tonight although his leg was wrapped up pretty good. He had 7 of the teams 14 assists in the game and he hit some big shots toward the end of the first half. He did have some turnovers late in the game, but as Lansing said on the post game some of that was due to the pressure that UNI put on him. 17 pts. 7 ast. 2 stl. 5 rbs. CAN YOU SAY FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR? TOOD GOLDEN MAKE YOUR CASE ONE MORE TIME
HE DESERVES IT!
JP: Freaking great game, the kid finally has decided to let her rip the last 3 or 4 games and the end results have been huge for the Sycamores. He led us in scoring and hit big 3 after big 3 tonight in the second half. The bench scored 40 points for the Sycamores tonight and JP was a big part of that accounting for nearly half of those points. He made some costly turnovers but to Lansings credit he didn't give up on him tonight.
Richard: Hopefully he's not hurt to bad, we really need him to be healthy come St. Louis. With that being said tonight was NOT one of his better games. He was not aggressive at all toward the basket, just wanted to chuck it from long distance. I really wish he'd stop shooting 3 pointers. Don't believe he got fouled on the layup/dunk at the end of the game? But dude you simply have to finish the play, keep it simple Carl.
Walker: He has got to figure something out at the free throw line, I mean he's horrible at the line. He did have some big rebounds tonight in what was mostly a perimeter game on both sides of the floor. Both teams kind of decided early on - the best shooting team is going to win this and tonight that was the Sycamores.
Carter: If you would have told me before the game that AC and Carl would struggle like they did and the Sycamores would win (without Kelly also) I would have told you not a chance in hell. Well it happened tonight, Carter was awful tonight. But to his credit he hit some big free throws for us late in the game, really helped secure the win.
Koang: Thought he gave us a big lift off the bench tonight. Really played good minutes for us - he crashes the boards well and he is just a tough matchup for the other team. I really liked the lineup with him, RJ, JP, Odum and Carter anyone of which could knock down a 3 for us. I really like our rotation when Koang get's minutes - I'd like to see him continue to get 5 to 10 a game.
Eitel: Big free throws at the end of the game - I joked aloud (shocking I know) in Beefs that Marshall just went off the power map when he hit those two free throws, boy they were big! At some point maybe as early as next year he and his brother are going to have a significant role on this team.
RJ: Thought this was one of his best games as a Sycamore - he really knocked down some big time shots for the Sycamores tonight. He also faired pretty well on the defensive end, he battled some knee trouble early in the MVC season and I tell you what he's given us more than I thought he would in his freshman campaign.
Steve: Hits the big 3 early on and then we didn't hear much from him the rest of the game. Mishandled a poor pass from JP also in the first half and I haven't seen the final box score but I don't think Steve did much in this game. He (also) hit a few free throws with under 8 to play in this game as I recall.
Lathan: Didn't think he did much of anything productive tonight - really struggled to get anything going on the offensive side of the ball. I think (to his credit) that he has picked up his play on the defensive end, but still up and down on offense. We didn't need him to score tonight - he didn't play to selfish which was a good thing. Played within himself for the most part.
This was a big win here fellas, Sycamores go on the road and sweep the Panthers to all but lock up 3rd place in the Valley. I have said that this team has resolve all season and they really do. They have put that 5 game skid behind them and the accomplished what very few thought was possible. I think Coach Lansing and Co. have done a fantastic job with this team. Everyone freaked out when McKenna bailed at the last min. all this team is done has gone on to outplay expectations by literally everyone and we have put ourselves in great position to make a deep run in St. Louis.
