Three Minnesota Gophers were ejected following Friday night's game after a controversial call at home plate.

With two outs and the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth, Sean Manaea threw a wild pitch. ISU Catcher Fitzgerald corraled the ball and shuttled it to Manaea. Manaea tagged the runner coming in from third and the home plate umpire signaled the runner out.

Word is that a batter at the plate during the same inning as the wild pitch had a check swing. The ump says he didn't go around. But a Tweeter from Pefect Game says he looks like he went around. So, was the ump making good a previous bad call? Who knows.

The three Gophers who were on base--at first, second and third--were ejected for arguing the call. All three must sit out today's game. Sports Information Director Danny Pfrank says they may have to sit out tomorrow's game as well...but he wasn't sure.

Regardless of the call at home the runner called out should have been ejected. The reaction of the others didn't show on the video I saw. D1 athletes must exhibit self-control to avoid hurting themselves and their teams by their actions--not their play. It's not always easy, but it is always necessary.

Well said!

I think it's humorous that all runners (1B, 2B & 3B) argued the "check swing," when only one runner would've had a proper angle to see the swingl (1B or
3B, depending on the batter being RH or LH)...
