FBS versus FCS

There is a big difference between a FBS school and a FCS school. FBS school has a about 50% more scholarhips to offer than a FCS school...so guess where the scholarship money goes to...right! Not to kickers/punters.

What I have witnessed is that in the recruiting process a lot of FCS schools will go after high school athletes that not only play a skilled position, like running back or quarterback...but that same kid also does the kicking and/or punting.

Just curious, most MVC and/or FCS schools have their kicking/punting stats on line...are they or how much better are they than ISU? If they are better, maybe there lies the answer to what the next steps should be...I don't know maybe I am over simplifying it!

All I know is that when former players have wanted to come in...

and work with some of the guys (at all positions), I've been told that they can't do any on-the-field work with the players as it's against NCAA rules. They can talk to them off the field and offer advice, but as for actually coaching, they can't do it. That's all I know.

is the allowable staff size for FCS football coaching staffs?

Harbaugh worked for like $1.00, signed a contract...

He was on the sidelines during games; no idea how much (if any) he participated during the daily practices...

Believe his coaching title was 'Recruiting Coordinator/Dir of Ops...'
 
As the mother of the freshman kicker/punter, I can assure you all of a few things about the kickers and kicking game: Kicking is not unlike springboard diving, as it is very technical and complex. My son recently, as in the week he had off between summer conditioning and camp,went to WI to receive individualized coaching from the best coaches in the nation. He has had to make adjustments due to the growth spurt he had over the last few months. Anytime a kicker makes adjustments to any part of the kicking process, the kicks will be ugly and inconsistent until the new process becomes habit. He has a written drill plan that was created for him by the kicking experts. As I learned from the experts, and witnessed with my son: A kicker must stick with the training plan, as too many reps creates what is known in the kicking game as "dead leg". My son reviews film of his kicks, and makes corrections based on what is seen on the film. He will remain in contact with the experts throughout the season, and will receive coaching from them. My son is well aware of what Coach Miles wants from him, and I can assure you he gives 100% all the time. We both hope that you all will be not so quick to judge based on what is seen at any one practice. Look for improvements throughout the next three weeks.........
