The Odum Level
Don't know if anyone has been following Miles at Georgia State, but his team there is pretty awful. See they're losing 37-0 in the third quarter today to a bad Appalachian State team. Finally got his first and only win there this year with a one point victory in their opener, but he was winless last year and the team has now lost eight straight this season. Wouldn't be surprised if they fire him at season's end. They probably can't afford to give him more time like we did.

I'd bet he gets one more season - not sure how many left on his contract.

Besides being paid handsomely I'm sure he wishes he and his family were still in the Haute and that he was coaching this team. I think he will be back one day.

0fer in year one. 1 win in year two. Identical to Miles first two years here. Give him one more! He got 6 in year 3 here.

Pretty hilarious - Trent was just on Sportscenter for today's game. GSU down 20-0 right before half. App State is lined up to kick FG. Trent has 3 timeouts left so he decides to burn all of them in succession. All while it is snowing and his team is getting beat pretty bad. Finally App State has enough and just fakes the FG and scores a TD. Classic! I'll try to post video clip.

I really wish coaches would stop trying to "ice" kickers. Didn't work for us today either.

I agree. It's gotten to the point where the timeout is expected, so it's almost more effective to just let the kicker kick the FG anticipating the timeout but never call it.

Only way it works is if you call it right before the snap and the kicker makes it and then you frustrate him, but usually coaches call it earlier than that. I've seen the Colts call it right before the snap only to see the guy miss it and then make it on the second attempt.

Yeah, it just seems to work in the opposite for how it's supposed to. All you do is end up giving the kicker a free practice kick. If the kicker is that mentally fragile where a tactic like icing them would work, I'd rather just have his nerves work against him right off the bat rather than give him a free practice kick to calm his nerves.

Agreed with all this. Like you all said, I think it just gives the kicker more time to calm down and collect himself, instead of having to kick right after being rushed onto the field and not having time to completely focus.
