So we're building a new ball park and they're eliminating baseball. This is one time I don't envy Northern Iowa at all.

Sad for the players.

How sad!

Cordell looked in to going to UNI (along with others) before signing with ISU. I really like the coach and wish him, and the boys, luck in finding new baseball homes. Its been rumored for awhile, but a sad day that its actually come true. :(

I'm not surprised though.......

SkinnyLu,

When do teams up there get to start playing at home? We always have quite a few more road games than we do home games because of the weather. Who wants to come play in Indiana in late Feb and early March? Nobody.... Therefore, we go to South Carolina, Florida, Tennessee, etc.

My guess is that UNI had a REALLY hard time getting home games, which makes it hard to develop a following.

It's always sad to see sports eliminated. I feel especially bad for the kids on the team that committed to play baseball for the next 4 years for UNI. Now they have to leave and go elsewhere or stay and not play the sport that they love. It's nice that the rules are such to let the kids transfer without sitting out and/or stay at UNI and keep their scholarship.

They mention that this is not directly related to Title IX. I have a hard time believing that Title IX had nothing to do with this. I understand that a lot of baseball programs don't make money, especially when they are located in the Northern part of Iowa. However, many men's sports have been KILLED because of Title IX. Title IX has been tremendous for women's sports and I will not down-play the need for it, but it has lead to the near extinction of many men's sports.

ISU fans, remember the Men's Gymnastics, Wrestling, and Golf teams? They competed ok.
