My question is why give cost of attendance to the basketball programs and volleyball? I get basketball and then having to add women's basketball but why throw volleyball into the mix?

Along with adding the FCOA to all sports NDSU will also push every sport to the MAX DI level. Im glad to hear, we will be full DI Scholarship on all sports offered in 2016.

Some Summit and MVFC mates may not like it but I believe this is the ultimate push to try and make a All sports conference for NDSU weather it be FCS or FBS. Along with it being Montana game week this news makes it even better!!

I'm happy for you that your university has donors and a state flush with oil money that can make this happen. Oh, were that true here...

this is far from the truth, NDSU recieves no more money from the oil than they did before and the state funding is split between 11 universities, UND actually gets more percentage of state funding than NDSU. The nearest oil well to NDSU is 335 miles roughly. East and West ND dont get along and they do anything they can to NOT send "oil money" to NDSU.

The increase in donations come from the booster club, of which most are Agriculture based companies and local Fargo Businesses, Sanford Health, Scheels All Sports, Local Engineering and Construction firms. So sorry it was going to happen regardless of Oil, as there has been active oil in ND since 1950. Im not at all saying there are not some donations due to people having extra change in their pockets from oil, but if you look at the booster list its far from Oil donations even being a recognizable %. Fargo is a growing tons, lots of high paying jobs for grads of college who are giving back.

I agree with TJ this isn't about state money it is about ALUMNI donations. I think the ag industry plays into it, but winning FOUR National Championships also has something to do with it. This is where the halves and halves not's will intersect. I cant imagine NDSU staying in the MVFC for long unless other schools follow there lead. MSU, SDSU and ISUR just built new stadiums so I assume they plan to compete. The part that concerns me, ISU had to accept financial aid from the Valley just to purchase cameras for the ESPN contract. Not sure this is a good sign.

Correct, it will be funded with outside donations, they secured funds before announcing.

I love the Summit/MVFC but ultimately want an all sports conference, it's hard to have two different conferences with different teams to build any good rivalries etc..not only is FB driving it but Basketball at NDSU also, new arena, successful teams, our wrestling just entering the Big 12 conference, track and field is outstanding...it all helps

I firmly believe this will open the eyes of other schools and prove we are serious, NDSU is a way better school academically and athletically than lots of G5 schools currently. I'm guessing eyes of the top brass are looking west to the MWC we would fit right in and be competitive from the start, but that's just my speculation.

Ultimately it comes down to the 1970's. We should have went with UNI, Montana and Montana St to 1-AA back then...

I was actually trying (badly, obviously) to make the point that I wish we had donors that would step up and help their alma mater. And it would be nice if the state wasn't in mediocre shape financially, and constantly cutting our budget. I get the donations part. That's why I said "...Oh, were that true here..."

I also want to go on record that I have always been a proponent of adding NDSU to the Missouri Valley for all sports. I don't want SDSU as a package deal, because if we add NDSU, we need to add a southern/western team for geographic balance. But NDSU would be a tremendous addition to the MVC. I hope we get them before someone else does.

A lot of schools have sports in different conferences. To me, a rivalry is about school vs. school; if it's a conference match-up that adds to the rivalry (and often ensures the schools meet each other...)

Intrigued by your statement on the Bison being "...a way better school academically and athletically than lots of G5 schools currently."
Which G5 schools are "behind" the Bison? Pure speculation (and any good alumnus will do... OR is it data driven?)

More bad news for us then. It's going to become harder and harder to compete with them in football.
