Great looking facility. Reminds me of Western Kentucky. Does anyone think it is odd that Ball State and USI were started by ISU and booth have surpassed us?

What if,......if......USI decided to go Div I.

What if the Aces dropped down to Div II?

Would the MVC look at adding USI?

Humor me, its been a slow week and I am looking for something to talk about.

As I see it, USI will not be going D1 for some time. You are not planning a shot at D1 if you build a new basketball facility seating less than 5K. Evansville to D2? Possible but not likely. USI to the Valley? Why not? UE vs USI game still won't draw 6K.

My justification for these answers--been sick for a week and and still feel like crap. Don't know if any of tis made sense.

If the MVC ever adds another MBB team, it has to ask The University at Illinois Chicago (UIC) to join. The Pavillion where the Flames play is a beautiful facility, and it goes without saying UIC is a natural fit geographically. Most people don't realize how large the student body at UIC is. They have 29,000 graduate and undergraduate students.

Yes and we have 14,000 -- only about 200 of them appeared to be in Hulman Center against Bradley.
Loyola .....another Chicago team with a great record appears to be also lucky to put more than a few hundred in their gym
So .......? ? ?

i realize UIC is not local, but I have never heard of a person attending one of their basketball games. Student or not.

Only 200....that's bad.

Were you actually there to count that about amount? cuz about 200, could be about 300, or 400...that is if you count students outside of the Forest.

About 200 could also be 100 too, if it's just the Forest.........

Thanks for your post, it was a big help.

BTW, is your real name Nancy? Cuz you seem like a Nancy I used to know.

She was always about this and about that. She was like a regular female Forest Gump.

P.S. No relation to our Forest, that I know of.

Did you look at google maps to figure that out? Honest injun, without google, I mean how else would we know these things.

Did you know that former members Wichita State and Creighton weren't local either. Just sayin' that to help another syc fan out in case they didn't know, and honestly, you don't have to thank me for the geography lesson.....Just consider it a freebee!

And I totally agree with you, that I too have never heard of a person attending one of their basketball games.....student or not.

So I am guessing when I've watched UIC on TV that the people there aren't attending, they're are like visiting...or reviewing...or homeless......heck, maybe they're damn AUDITORS!!!

Auditors, the scourge, and damn scum of the planet!

P.S. I've never heard of a person attending a Murray State, Western Kentucky, or DePaul game either....and for the fun of it, add Missouri State.

let me expand on what I meant. I live in the I part of UIC. I know people who have attended said university. I know a lot of people from that area.
Although where I live wouldnt be considered local, I have never once heard of a person that had been to a game there. I wasnt knocking your hope to add them to the conference. I was referring to how many of the 20,000 students they would get to a game.

We played at UIC in 2001. In fact, we had an alumni gathering in Chicago prior to the game. Their arena is ok, but not as nice as Hulman Center.

Wow ! Talk about sarcasm ...and missing the whole point.

The point is the size of enrollment of a school seems to have little to nothing to do with how many fans (students) attend games.... 4- 5 years ago ISU had about 2000 fewer students, yet a much higher student attendance at games than these days.

And yes I've been to a couple of games this year and 200 might be a little low ....or might be a little high.

Bottom line, out of 14,000 we did not get close to 20% ......or 10% ........or 5% of them in Hulman Center. Not sure what 18 - 22 year olds have to do in Terre Haute these days, but for most being in Hulman Center for college basketball does not appear to be on their list.

Chicago College Basketball

Oh and by the way, while I'm not a regular viewer of Chicago college basketball games I have tuned in many times to watch a few minutes of various games.
Northwestern aside, NEVER have seen even a decent crowd in the stands for UIC, Loyola (good as they are check their average attendance), or even DePaul (yes better than Loyola & UIC but a Big East team in Chicago ...come on !).
Does not appear Chicago is much of a college sports town.
Quite frankly, if the MVC does want to expand I'm not sure where they turn, but I'd sure try St. Louis or Murray State before another Chicago college with a fan base of a few dozen.
Go Flames ! dahhh ....who ? ? ?

There are a lot of UI, ND and Iowa fans up there.

Want more students to attend games ?Is there any correlation between Tommy Lynch"s graduation and student attendance.Or how about coach Mckenna"s daughter moving on to greener pastures. Has anyone picked up the baton ? Has the student population been marketed ?It's pretty bad when you can count the number of students in the HC

NIKLZ72 .... not sure you're really getting the point here.

A school may have thousands and thousands of students enrolled, but unless they attend the games so what ?

And the fact there's lots of alumni/fans of OTHER schools in that area .....big deal ....what's that got to do with the central point ? ? ?

With an extremely large population base and at least decent size enrollments, mid-major schools in Chicagoland do not draw well.

Fact. Done.
